99.9¢ fuel, Friday 8AM-9AM, for BNE MEL SYD

2313

ACA's FUEL FIGHTBACK campaign is launching Friday (Oct 24) with Australia's cheapest petrol being offered in a special deal set up at petrol stations in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne.

The fuel - at 99.9 cents/litre - will be available during a Happy Hour bonanza between 8am - 9am at the following three locations:

SYDNEY: BP independent service station, 162 Sunnyholt Road, Blacktown, 2148

MELBOURNE: BP independent service station, 261 Melbourne Road, Newport 3015

BRISBANE: Matilda Fuel, 1977 Anzac Avenue, Mango Hill, Brisbane.

There is no limit, and it's on a strictly first come first served basis. Let the chaos begin.

  • o……m…..g….

    hhe

  • I predict a 2km waiting line out of these stations

  • "Chaos" for sure…
Cheap "news" for the Nine Network to cross-market to death!

    [ :- { )

  • There's actually a $20+ saving on a empty tank. But you can imagine the long long queue. No doubt there will be lots of angry motorist who missed out on the offer despite waited in line for an hour.

Probably would've gone and have a look if it's close to my place but not for me this time.

  • Good on them for lowering the price..but perhaps $20 is not worth for me to wait 2+ hrs…

  • surely, the current petrol price has gone mad given the current price for a barrel of crude oil is $67 USD from $140.

  • I heard people queued for an hour for similarly priced petrol.

  • I heard people talking about it on the radio.. and yeah people wait for hours just to fill up the tank…

  • sorry, but this is nothing but a really lame gimmick by ACA.
of course they have only done it in the 3 largest cities (ie their biggest viewing audiences)
and then only at one servo, thus ensuring long queues, bedlam, and heaps of cheap publicity.

    • A bit harsh I thought. Poor ACA coping the flack when it's giving discount on petrol.

I just see it as a store specific promotion. Not unlike heavily discounted soft drink at a newly opened Coles for example.

It may be a gimmick by ACA but hey if that's how they are buying publicity, we are the ones that are benefiting. (Again not unlike a newly opened supermarket)

    • A bargain that is actually cheap marketing in disguise? heh one day we will all wake up and realise that cheap airfair tickets are the same — 99.9% of people miss out! In fact any very very cheap bargain (with a limited supply) is a marketing exercise!

      • aren't all bargains just cheap marketing in disguise?

  • "cheap fuel" is a myth

  • This joke got even worse. This morning Channel nine "promised" views a segment on where to get this fuel - yep it was at 8:08am - and the deal was from 8 to 9am.

So the dummies who then got dressed got in their cars and got to the end of the line would have been very impressed.

We probably had more pollution and wasted fuel combined, through queues and traffic jams than anyone would have saved.

ACA is a joke as usual. Like its evil twin sister (Brother) TDT

My negative vote is because this isn't a bargain. It s like the first 20 to log on to a website will get the deal. In this case the servo has no incentive to serve the customers fast - the slower the better

    1. It increases the queue and therefore more publicity for itself and ACA
    2. It costs money to supply the fuel

So its more a lottery than a bargain

  • Same sort of deal happened around here a while back with a radio station offering 50 cent fuel. Chaos indeed. Great if you're first in line, but with only an hour to get the fuel..good luck.

EDIT: Totally agree with pete above.

  • If ACA are doing it just for the chaos and free publcity then screw them I rather pay 0.50c more!

  • Yeah great if you live near that particular service station and maybe if you start waiting from around 6am or even earlier to get in and get your fuel, as soon as the fuel runs out they close the pumps and bad luck for everyone else or if you get there after 9am, for me in melbourne it's useless as for me to drive to newport for the saving I will use that $20 saving in fuel to drive there and all the way back home and I will break even and maybe even lose money so it's a waste of time, I guess they chose newport here in melbourne as it's close to the refineries to refuel the servo when it runs out! LOL.

  • the lengths people go to save a few dollars. take public transport, better for the environment and better for your wallet. get out of your cars you obese morons

    • Ha, I was awaiting asstights always positive comment..

  • No good.

  • Excuse me? Negative votes for what is essentially a great deal, and with most good offers of course it is in limited supply.

    • It's not a "great deal," that's the point.
It's is equivalent to those "cheap accomodation" deals where you have to spent $100 per person on meals, or many similar scams.

There are many genuine bargains and freebies out there, they may not be "fantatsic" but at least they are honest.

If ACA genuinely wanted to put pressure on the government and fuel companies to reduce prices, then they could, they have the media power.
But no, they go for cheap publicity.
If this was some new enterprise, genuinely trying to attract new business, then I'd say it was great.
But it's a billion dollar organisation, stirring up the public for cheap publicity.
Again, if they were genuinely giving away a lot of cheap petrol for publicity, that would be ok, but they're not. They probably sold maybe around 10,000l of petrol, spending around $5,000.

  • Limited market + limited time + huge delay = not a bargain = negative vote

    • I think a lot of things posted here are limited market, and is justified if you specify what market. I think limited time is a prerequisite for bargains (not a bargain if it's available all the time). Huge delays are always expected for good, non-online bargains, you wouldn't need to wait if it wasn't a bargain now would you?

However, I agree that this may not be a bargain following Aussiebattler's comments that you would probably not save so much if you were out of the way or burning quite a bit of petrol when you are waiting to get to the pump.

  • I would vote pos+ but since this is now ACA involved for cheap media publicity.. then I changed my mind.

ACA with bigger budget that this small operator lady, should offer more than just 1 hour.

    Shame on you, ACA.

  • "Limited market + limited time + huge delay = not a bargain = negative vote"

    add violence

  • Yes ACA is associated with this deal, BUT, everyone seems to be forgetting that this is mainly for the independant petrol station owners who are trying to fight the big guys.

  • Quite simply, it has been done before, people would have missed out, etc - typical ACA/Today Tonight stunts.

  • Well done -ve voters, well done

  • What's the difference between this and a Catch of the Day site?

They could limit it to x amount sold in a day and you wouldn't know. At least its transparent here.

    • for me.
    • Its like catch of the day selling all of its promo stock to one person. If someone with a big tank, and jerry cans goes in takes 10 minutes to fill, then there's 12% of the bargain fuel gone - (10 minutes of 60 minutes).

On a website bargain it costs you nothing to browse. Here you gotta sit in a queue burn fuel and it's still a lottery whether you will get any. So it's more like a 1900 number competition, where you gotta pay to play…..

  • The petrol station is 20 klms away and have to queue up for a couple of hours. Don't think so.

Hey everyone else is voting negative, im gonna do the same!!

  • not a bargain. cheap publicity. And I'm voting -ve because everyone else is =P

  • WOW! this is prob the first post i've seen with this many neg votes HAHA!

I'm staying out of this, neutral vote for me! LOL!

    • keep the -ve's coming!

This deal will most likely not save the majority of people money.

    NEGATIVO!

  • ACA? Don't need to say more… Masters of the cheap (for them), nasty gimmick aimed to raise their audience ratings and provide them with a higher take in advertising revenue. Biq queue? Instant ACA story. Rubbish.

  • Rubbish deal. Negative is what it'll get!

  • hey guys, it is really a good deal for those who can get it, but as per the slower service and long ques, it is just creating a bad name for ACA. this deal don't deserve a negative, if it was petrol station near your place, well i believe u wud be the first to get ur tank filled… But anyways thnx neil to letting us know about the offer. add + from me..

    • And yet you didn't vote at all!

  • Interesting development here…

I am keeping neutral here. However the idea is — if you guys want to bash ACA, make sure you don't give it too many negative votes so it gets voted out from listing and becomes invisible to the search engines :)
