Using a Re-Shipping Service to Order Food from a US Supermarket

I've had this idea for awhile now. Basically, I would like to order a big package of American snacks and meal kits from a supermarket like Kroger and have them reshipped to Australia using one of the re-shipping services. The potential problem that I can see is that supermarkets don't box their deliveries so I'm not even sure if a re-shipping service would accept the delivery. Has anyone done anything like this? Is it feasible at all?

I know USA foods exists but 3/4 of the products on their site are constantly out of stock and I suspect that using a re-shipping service might end up being cheaper…

Why not just shop at Coles & Woolies?

I've spent my life shopping at coles and woolies! American brands are like an alternate reality that I'd like to experience without having to actually visit the place. They have 13 times our population so theoretically they should have 13 times the brands, 13 times the variety etc. I figure that as long as I avoid ordering heavy things like cans, it shouldn't be too expensive either.

Just visit USA Foods, its like a supermarket in there.

They have a whole wall of USA cereals alone….

Your mum : there is food at home.

You are better off buying from companies in Australia that stock american brands.

also is there anything specifically you would like to order ?

    Can’t you order from Amazon?

  • maybe try to make some friends over there somehow (pen pals?) and get them to send you a box of stuff called a "care package" (shipping is very expensive btw).

Or startup a youtube channel called 'Aussie first reaction to US Foods' and get them to send them over for free.

USA Foods is just such a rip off and half their stuff even isn't in stock. I also want to order US foods..

  • Yeah I’d love some Rao’s sauce.

      Username checks out

  • Try iherb, Amazon and our local Costco might have some products.

  • Is there a functions reshaping service that works nowadays? There’s always parts and things I’m after from the US but I always get out off by so many bad reviews on the shippers…..

The shipping would cost you around 100 dollars. And it’s not only about weight, it’s about the volume, too, so you’ll pay quite a lot for crisps and big packets. Shipping managers will consolidate the parcel for you and accept pretty much anything, but the courier may have some issues with perishables and food items, so you’d need to check their rules. Overall, it’s a 100-150 AUD exercise with a couple of weeks wait.

You'd also need to deal with import/biosecurity restrictions and related costs for importing food - see https://www.agriculture.gov.au/biosecurity-trade/import/good….

Better off finding a supplier here, unless you know a good customs broker.

  • A lot of reshipping services don't accept food and perishables - just check with the shipper company you plan on using first before ordering. They usually box up the items themselves
