Credit Card with Complementary Travel Insurance WITHOUT Need to Book on Said CC

Hey guys,
I booked 2 holidays next year, have already paid for return flights.

Long story short, I didn't book with my amex so therefore unable to enable the complementary travel insurance (requires outbound flight to be paid for via amex).

Now I'm after a credit card with travel insurance that DOESN'T require me to book flights using the card.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

Thanks!

Some CBA cards but probably better to just get travel insurance.

  • Heard HSBC credit card provide free travel insurance. Do check the fact with them first ok.

CBA Ultimate doesn't require any payments, you just activate in the app.

Haven't looked at ANZ or NAB for a while but from memory both of those were something like spend $500-750 on prepaid holiday costs on the card, not necessarily the flights.

    • CBA Gold, Platinum and Diamond too.

I've used it for years after comparing it to other travel insurances and was good.

Although, now older have "existing conditions" and pay a bit to have that covered.
Application goes to Cover More site and quotes to cover you.

I think your dreaming as you need to spend money on the CC that has to do with the holiday for it to cover you and probably will only cover the area you paid for on the CC. You need to lookup the CC conditions and read them for the different cards available that include free travel insurance and what they cover.

I thought it was too good to be true but CBA cards^ offers travel insurance without the need to pay for return tickets (or anything for that matter) on your credit card.

You need to apply for and activate the travel insurance before you leave.

You receive a Certificate of Insurance and the insurance is provided by Covermore (Zurich). It's not going to be the best cover out there but it's pretty good overall (and exceptional considering the price!).

  • As far as I can remember ANZ requires $250 of holiday expenses (flights/accommodation etc) to enable insurance. I had to claim for delayed baggage last time and they were very good. Check the PDS to ensure it is $250 before purchasing!

  • ANZ FF Black card here - You don't need to book your expensive purchases like flights/accomo, only $250 spend on travel-related expenses (I bought an airbnb experience). Make sure you don't spend too much over that because the international fees are around 3%. You get a much better deal with fee-free CC like 28 degrees or Citibank Plus cards (within 1% of the spot rate).

If you are bothered (turn around time for application was 1 month for me) to apply for one I highly recommend it as the insurance that comes with it is solid (Allianz).

Also, you can call them up to get proof of insurance cover if you are worried whether your $250 actually activated the complimentary insurance.

    Good luck with it.

Hey guys, looks like CBA is the winner.
    No payment required!

    Checked ANZ and it's $250
    And HSBC is $500

    • For future reference, booking flights / or noncancellable accommodation without insurance is a bad idea, if you got sick or something change before your travel date, you wouldn't be able to claim anything.

      • Thanks! Good point
I just signed up for CBA low fee gold (first year free) with free travel insurance

Will book remainder of expenses once insurance is approved

        Cheers

Yes, and have claimed with it for tickets purchased via other means no problem also.

  • Anyone has any experience on the Citi Prestige which was a deal a while ago?
