Kitchen Benchtop Polisher Compound and Tool

Hi,

I have an engineer stone benchtop in my kitchen and some areas the coating is wearing due to over the years wrong product i.e white cream cleanser used to get rid of stubborn stains.

What polishing compound and tool is recommended to use for an engineer stone benchtop?

  • What was the original finish- high gloss or satin?

    • Hey Jim, its gloss

cream cleanser can dulls gloss finishes and overpolishes satin finish.

I don't believe there's a coating on reconstituted quartz benchtops, they are mechanically polished to a high gloss.

The only way to fix it properly is to get a professional in to polish the benchtop.

Having said that, I'd try the same stuff for your car- random orbital sander with a fine cutting compound. You have nothing to lose. That's what the pro's will use away. You may be happy enough with your DIY job. You'll probably still notice it but no one else will.

        • Mine is dull on some patches where frequent stains occur with hairline scratches. When the sun shines on it it's visible.

Is there a finishing top coat applied i.e. sealer?

          would this tool work - https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/certa-variable-speed-orbital-ca… ??

          • @HL2: Do a Google search for stone benchtop restoration.

Unless you're in whoop-whoop, there should be plenty of repair/restoration places around that will do the four steps for you: grind —> hone —> polish —> seal

For gloss, this stuff has served up really well. Doesn't tear the surface up like Jif, Gumption etc. 10 years since the benchtop was installed and it looks as good as day one.

For remedial work - I'd call in a professional.

        • Yeah that stuff is ideal for cleaning and maintenance but it seems like it's too far gone in this instance.

          • @JimB: WHere abouts in AU are you?

            • @[Deactivated]: It's HL2 that needs his benchtop fixed, not me. lol

              • @JimB: LOL! Sorry mate

              • @JimB: Im located in Mulgrave Victoria

  • Tried contacting a supplier?

    • No idea who the supplier is, our kitchen contractor ditch the job half way during covid year 2020. But the stone benchtop was delivered and installed. Im not too sure if it was sealed properly at the get go as the benchtop stains easily

      • Don’t need to contact ‘the’ supplier, just any supplier to find out the best product/process to use.
