Hide Products from Listing

Lately I've noticed a handful of people whining about all the SSD deals popping up every few days so I have come up with a solution and that is to expand on this feature by adding an option to block products.

Implementing it may encourage more people to use the blocking feature as some people may not want to block all posts from certain stores in case they miss out on a good deal for another product the store sells. Blocking specific products would be more useful as opposed to blocking stores completely for some. It may even encourage the use of the feature and get more people aware of it.

  • No it's not yet currently possible :)

    It's mainly to do with how the deals get categorised. We have a "Category" and "Tags" fields, and if people do read Tagging Guidelines properly before they tag, things would be much easier.

    But people don't, and deals are tagged in whichever way the OP sees fit (or sometimes not tagged at all) — which renders tagging pretty much useless.

    Until we have figured out a better way to categorise deals/products, it won't be feasible to say "I want to block all the SSD deals".

    (Not to mention that it is also more computational intensive as well, as each deal can only belong to by one store or to one poster, but can contain multiple products/tags).

  • how about a community based editing where users with more than certain amount of comments/deals/100+ deals/time on ozbargain can edit the tags/post. Sort of like how it is on stack overflow.

    • Yes… Until I can get that user reputation stuff out of the way first. By how many comments/deals people posted can be quite a bad way to determine how reputable a user is. We don't want all the fast-posting trolls to gain editing rights, do we? :)

      • use all those criteria ie mix and match.

        ie Users older than 2 years && Post deals > 100 && deals votes > 20.

        Or/and use the badge system to weed out trollers?

          I've seen roles of Publishers in other forums. There like the Moderators of Threads. No deletion permissions but can edit.

          Means the Mods have there own job, and the Publishers have there's. Everyone does there job and the deals would be great. Besides this the advantages to OZB is the Tags associated with Google and Search engines = more hits, more members and a spurt in growth. This would also be a good stepping stone for future mods; and not giving them full power but to grow with there permissions. Same principle as a L Plated Driver rather than a P Plated.
