Change Internet Provider without Getting Charged Twice

Hi all, I'm looking to take advantage of other ISPs cheap promos by hopping around every 6 months. But I can't for the life of me figure out when I should do it without being charged twice for the previous internet bill and then the current one… Unless that's just the norm and it will happen whatever I do?

Just wondering as when I changed from Uniti to ABB , Uniti then charged me for the next month and then ABB charged me for the first month of use (if that makes sense??)

Any advice would be appreciated thanks!

The "conditions" for each provider will tell you how much notice you need to give them for disconnection - so expect to pay up to that "disconnection" date, regardless of whether they charge in advance or in arrears.

The margins that ISPs have on NBN don't seem to be that big, so the variations in pricing between ISPs might not even be big enough to make it worthwhile.

You'll likely be left with no internet during switching period. Tangerine couldn't connect me for over 1 month since the date I put on the application.

Household was pretty mad at me for this reason, have stuck to a single provider for at least 6 months every time since then.

Luckily have been promised a decent loyalty offer to continue with same provider, see if you can be offered loyalty discount if so consider taking it.

  • Does any know how Optus handles the billing if switching out? is it pro-rata or do you have to give notice

    • Does any know how Optus handles the billing if switching out?

They'll leak your data out to hackers!

    • You do not have to give notice, but it is a pain to get a refund if you have paid in advance and you will need to wait for the next billing cycle and then ask for the refund.

This assumes you are not on a contract.

      • i like telstra

i wasn't expecting them to send me a $8 cheque on balance of pro-rata for last bill paid in full
