  • I can't see how only 10% off constitutes a bargain, this is more of a sale. Actually your discount voucher code also has it as an end of financial year "sale". Neg from me.

why is a sale not a bargain?

    • +6

because in this case 10% is more of an advertising gimmick. The whole point of a stocktake sale is to clear out old stock, which business typically do by dramatically lowering their profits and offering large discounts. So 10%? Pfft.

      • +2

There are plenty of bargains on here that equate to 10% off - received lots of upvotes too. I realise that 10% off a laptop and 10% off a car are two different things, but come on - negging a deal because it's "only" 10% off is pretty precious

For all we know, the yoga mat business could be cut-throat, run on razor thin margins…

If all 10% off deals were published then this site will become an advertising site not a bargain site. Just walk down the city streets this week and you will see almost every store having EOFY sales with blanket percentages off. Does this mean each of these sales should be posted on Ozbargain? To me a sale and a bargain are two different things. At some point a sale switches to a bargain but not for these yoga products at 10% off.

Secondly any savings from the 10% is more than eroded with the high delivery cost. As a quick check a $15 product had a delivery cost within Australia of $16.76!

        • At some point a sale switches to a bargain but not for these yoga products at 10% off.

Presumably you've seen them cheaper elsewhere?
          Care to share?

        • a cursory glance at OP's website shows their yoga mats selling at $50 and above, shipping excluded.

Presumably you've seen them cheaper elsewhere

This isn't even the cheapest i could find but the first result off google.

        • So are the ones at rebel sport better in someway than these ones?

        • The 4 mm ECO yoga mats are $42.00 without 10% discount.

        • eBay, Amazon and the Book Depository are all cheaper.

        • So are the ones at rebel sport better in someway than these ones?

listen to you, getting all defensive. For God's sake, it's just a friggin yoga mat, not a car. Yoga mats should be purchased with 2 things in mind: material and thickness. A good yoga mat should not lose its elasticity or flexibility too quickly, and the thickness should be at least 6mm. Doesn't really matter what brand you go for as long as it lasts.

so is that a yes or a no?

        • geezbus, build a bridge already.

we should all be concerned when people try to remove deals simply because they don't suit that particular individual….

          from the voting guidelines…..

Pricing is always subjective. A $1 off a $500 item isn’t much of a bargain, but on a $3 item it is. But then again to some a $3 item is junk so anything off isn’t a bargain. So really negative votes purely based on pricing requires caution. Are you imposing your set of values on another in the community?

          http://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/help:voting_guidelines

I have no problem with someone posting "I have these, they're crap…. much cheaper from blah blah… negative"…. ie an informed opinion on the product or the retailer.

Someone attempting to have the post removed simply because they "can't see how only 10% off constitutes a bargain" should be questioned….. Make the comment, sure….. but don't add a neg….. someone may wish to make use of this post….

        • excellent post - wish I could have put it like that

I don't know if this deal is crap or not, I rely on the community to assist with that (and I assist when I can). Simply negging over price is not helpful to the community - explaining where a better deal for the same or better product can be had is VERY helpful - and is what makes this site great

Does anyone know where I can score an awesome yoga mat at a sweet price? (not that I need one but you know how OzB works…)

why is a sale not a bargain?

DSE have sales on but their products still cost more than elsewhere… So sales aren't bargains unless the product is the best price…

    • +2

in that case we are usually presented with information where we can purchase the same product for a lower amount, justifying the neg

handing out negs because one doesn't like the discount % is worthless

  • Not a bargain, but hardly neg-worthy. To neg something like this (unless you know their prices are extreme to start with) simply devalues neg votes when they're genuinely deserved.

    • +3

Their prices are very high to start off with. To demonstrate I have compared the first item from each category of their site to avoid any biases of picking and choosing.

4mm Yoga Mat - Their undelivered price is $45. On eBay you can get a 4mm yoga mat delivered for $19.95.

Cork Yoga Block - Their delivered price is $25.17. On eBay you can get this delivered for $19.80.

Yogini - Vinyasa Flow Yoga for Women DVD - Their undelivered price is $29.95 on Amazon you can get it delivered for $20.97.

Anatomy for Arm Balances and Inversions Book - Their undelivered price is $45. On Amazon you can get it delivered for #33.05.

AM/PM Meditation DVD - Their undelivered price is $29. On eBay you can get it delivered for $16.86.

The above prices do not consider the 10% discount but even with 10% off, their prices are considerably higher than the prices I found with a quick search. This is advertising and not a bargain. I don't see the merit in posting percentages off sales if the initial prices are very high compared to competition to start of with. If we continue down this line, every retailer could just increase their prices by (say) 10% and offer a 10% discount and call it a bargain.

      • That's much better….

        • but an utter waste of time…

The onus should be on the OP to ensure they follow the guidelines in the first place.

          http://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/help:deal_posting_guideline…

Special note: Sales, Catalogs and Stores

          "People generally value their time."

"Postings that reference a sale, catalog or store but don't provide enough information to find at least one bargain, may be unpublished."

        • +1

          People generally value their time.

You took the time to neg it…… I'm assuming that's because you clearly had information about the product or retailer that you wanted to share….. although you didn't mention that in your first post.

Presumably if you had no strong feelings about yoga equipment, you would have ignored or passed over the post and not wasted your time…..
