Left over TCN The Restaurant Gift Card

Hi Ozbargainer,

I bought TCN The Restaurant Gift Card ($100x5) a month ago from https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/728256. Therefore, leftover the small amounts of $1.99, $3.12, and $3,35. Do you know how to spend all of them to reach $ 0.0?

I realise that you can make split payments in Maccas, but for example, purchasing a $2 burger with $1.99 will need more than 1c. If I pay with 5c (cash), wouldn't I lose 4c?

I would like to know your thoughts on where to spend all the leftovers of TCN The Restaurant Gift Card.

    I pay with 5c, wouldn't I lose 4c?

    What? Pay via eftpos

    • splitting the payment with the restaurant gc $1.99 and 5c (cash) to purchase a burger that cost $2

      • The remaining deficit of 1c
If you tell the cashier (not that they will even ask) that you wish to pay with cash, the system will automatically round it off to 0 and you wouldn’t have to pay anything.
        1c and 2c round off to 0.
3c and 4c round off to 5 cents,

        • Pay with cash but swipe on the restaurant gift card ($1.99), do you mean?

I know it's OzB, but seeeeeeeriously?

    • I'm serious hahaha

      • I don't know what to say! haha

        • I was growing up in a poor family, which makes me don't want to lose any cents and that makes me the true of OzB member hahaha!

          • @ivyholmes: That’s just next level. Learn from growing up in a poor family and don’t hold onto cents. How are you going to get rich by worrying about pocket change? You need to change your mindset if you’re asking us about a few cents.

            • @bobwokeup: Why is it matter with this mindset? In the end, money is still money. As I mentioned, $499.999,9 wouldn't be $500k without 1 cent in your bank account. It is not about worrying about the leftover but maximizing the leftover.

If you don't know the way, it's OK not to answer. I'm asking anyone here who knows.

This does not relate to how to get rich. You are getting richer by investing or making more money, not by saving. Saving is just a part of having the capital to invest more money. But without having enough savings, of course, you can't invest.

Keep in mind that everybody is not the same. This is my way. You can have your way.

              • @ivyholmes: Well for starters we haven’t had 1 or 2 cent coins for years for a reason.

See if you think $49999.99 is not the same as $500k then that’s part of the problem. Marketing want you to think like that.

I didn’t say to save it’s about how you think but you keep doing you.

Just when I thought I have seen it all, you came along…

well, because when you have $499.999,99 without 1c, you don't have $500k right?

      • lol, I love the way your brain works.

Haha, thank you! I mean, 4c may mean nothing in Australia, but 4c, like in Africa or Southeast Asia, still have value in other countries. For example, to pay the bus in my home country, I need 35c without 4c, meaning not enough credit for one trip.

I think this offer https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/734527 is better than Ubank.

          • @ivyholmes:

mean, 4c may mean nothing in Australia,

Btw dude, you are not losing 4 cents here.
I already explained it to you in a comment above..

Cash - rounds off to 0
Eftpos - You only need to pay 1c.

            • @Gervais fanboy: I understand what you mean, but the problem is the splitting payment is limited between cash and card ONLY, which means I can't use two EFTPOS cards. Paying all cash $2 has no conjunction with the leftover gift card (I don't mean to be rude, but honestly, I don't quite understand what do you mean)

              • @ivyholmes:

which means I can't use two EFTPOS cards

                Who told you that ??
I am quite sure that you can.
You can do a split payment using multiple cards.

Mate, I’ll give you the 4cents. You gotta stop with the trolling though…

                • @Gervais fanboy: I'm talking about paying at Maccas, mate! I'm serious, you can only split the payment between cash and card(one card) at Maccas. Not joking, though…

                  That's why I am asking…

When I worked in a petrol station there would be people come in and put it to exactly $10.00. Then I'd watch them try put in exactly 2c more so the rounding would make it $10. Then they'd (profanity) up and coming in fuming about how they only wanted to pay $10…

Anyway, pay the extra cent on your ING card to make up one of the 5 transactions a month, problem solved.

    • about how they only wanted to pay $10…

So they weren’t paying with cash then ?

      • +1

They were, they'd go over 10.02 to 10.03 or something. Then it's rounding up and they're "losing" money.

        • they'd go over from 10.02 to 10.03

          lol

        • Wow, thank you, haha! Good to know

  • I was trying to look for this exact same thing and found this thread. However, it went off topic since everybody is commenting on OPs concerns losing cents.

Back to topic in 2024, does anybody know a good way to use up left overs? Any restaurants that will allow split payment?

    • you can split payments in Hungry Jacks, i did it with 5 cards but because the manager found out, i cant do it anymore, maybe give it a go. You can split payment too in GYG
