Brother Colour Laserjet Printer Issues

Hi OzBargain family
Does anyone know what could be causing these streaks on my brother colour laserjet printer?

I've replaced all the toners and the waste toner

  • Cleaning the drum and the wire might fix your problem. Try cleaning first before replacing the drum.

    • Thanks for the video link
I tried cleaning the wire but no difference.

  • Thanks alot!

  • Looks like a cleaning blade or charge problem to me.

    • Charge problem? is that a part that can be replaced?

Disclaimer: I was a printer tech for 20 years but have been out of the game for a while now so my info might be out of date. :)

I just pulled apart the Brother HL3170 I have here and assuming the mechanism is the same as your model then each of the four colours (CMYK) has it's own separate drum, corona (charge) wire and cleaning blade so if the problem you are having is on all copies and not a particular colour I would suspect the cleaning station underneath the transport belt. If you pull out all the toner sections and CAREFULLY place them on a bench (DO NOT mark any of the drums) you will see a dark grey transport belt underneath them. It just lifts out easy-peasy (but again, be careful not to touch the surface) but see if you can see toner streaks on it similar to what you see in the copies. If you do then underneath that belt is a small cleaning station with a couple of rollers on it, it may be full of toner and not cleaning the transport belt.

If all of that looks OK then it's possible that the teflon coating had come off your hot roller which is part of the heating section at the rear of the printer, you should be able to open the flap at the rear of the machine get a look at the roller, though going by the sample you provided it doesn't look like a typical fuser problem. From memory the fuser pops out fairly easily with just 2 screws. Make sure to unplug the machine from the power before playing around with it, just in case.

Finally got around to buying the transfer belt.
Replaced all the toners as well and everything is new again!
