Monitor Recommendations 27" 240hz 1440p Not Curved (AW2721D?, PG279QM?)

Looking to upgrade from monitors I purchased about 5 years ago which were 27" / 144Hz / 1440p / 1st Gen Gsync Module. (Acer XB271HU)
The monitors have been pretty decent, with almost no issues (apart from one being cooler in colour the other warmer)
The tech doesnt seem to have drastically improved, but I would like to get something newer so
a) I'm not locked into a nVida GPU and can use AMD/Freesync
b) Surely something recent should have a newer panel then my 5 year old monitors?
c) Warranty and new toys are always fun

Idealy I'd love to get 2 of the ASUS ROG Swift PG279QM, but at $1399 little bit to pricey for my liking. Which then brings me to the Alienware AWD2721D, I saw some deals posted for this monitor back in June for around the $700 mark which seems really good. But thats the thing no deals since June from the looks of things, wondering if I try my luck with Dell sales and see if they'll do a better price.

The other couple of options I've seen and mainly from watching reviews on YouTube from Hardware Unboxed are;

• MSI MAG274QRX
• GIGABYTE M27Q X
• Acer XB273U GXbmiipruzx

But these seem to be either unavailable in Aus or discontinued.

My other thought is to just get new monitors that are only 165Hz don't neccessarily need the 240Hz.

  aw2721d has a cheaper brother, the aw2723df. it's the same monitor basically without the gsync module. with an education or enterprise discount it'd go down to around $800 off the dell store, which could be tempting.

  i personally have an xb273ugx and it's a wonderful display, very colour accurate in sRGB mode for editing and refresh is great for esports trite.

  stock of all monitors is really really bad right now.

  A week ago, bought AORUS FI32Q- X when it was on sale at mWave. Used it only for work :) (I Know!!!) and its been great so far. It has 240Hz (270Hz OC) HDMI 2.1 and KVM. I think there is also a 27'' version (AORUS FI27Q- X) for the same. Although it only has HDMI 2.0. But the Refresh rate is 240hz.

  Dell often have 20% off their ebay store. I snagged an AW3423DW on the last sale which was in October but noticed it wasn't posted on ozb (I didn't post it as I noticed it about 4 hours before it expired!)

  So yeah - I think they do actually have sales quite often, might be worth keeping an eye out and also checking around black friday / cyber monday?

  I ended up going with the new version of the Alienware the DWF.

  I rate it think it’s a very good monitor. I’m currently using it as my only monitor seeing if I can live with just the one. My other two monitors only fit on my desk being in portrait mode. I’ll probably end up having at least one of those plugged in. Just to have discord open and say YouTube.
