Working out a place for celebration around Point Cook, Tarniet, Truganina and Werribee.

  • Is it…

    Trug a nine a

    Or

    Trug a neen a

The media definitely mix up their pronunciation when it's mentioned in the news.

  • I say "Trug a neen a" but who knows?

    TRUGANINA

Honorary secretary of the Truganina Progress Association Wendy Bitans says Truganina is named after an indigenous woman called Truganini. But, she says, the name isn’t pronounced phonetically. It’s Truga-NINE-a, not Truga-Neena as most people tend to say.

“When people say it like that it makes it an Italian name but it is actually an Aboriginal name,” she says.

I'm guessing there are more Italians than indigenous Australians living in the area so Trug a Neena it is. Cheers for the info

  • Not enough people interested in this event. I am marking it as cancelled.
