"If the customer is still demanding it, then put it through as a scanning policy" or along those lines.

    can i say this now?
this thread has officially become a NEG-FEST!

  • Originally there were 5000 candle winners for the 'design an Airwick room' competition who were notified by a set date. The date passed and I didn't receive any winners email, and there were a few complaints on FB about how everyone who submitted an entry should get a candle. A week later, I got this voucher.

Airwick has never said that this voucher was provided for being one of the 5000 'winners' or linked it to the 'design an Airwick room' competition, so I believe it is fair game that the OP presumed it was a freebie. However, commonsense would make you think it the intended audience was only limited to Facebook (hence, why I didn't post it - though I did think about doing so).

In Woolworths yesterday - saw the following notice displayed on the shelf in front of the Airwick Ribbon Candles:

A classic example of corporate spin and re manufacturing of the truth:

    ''NATIONAL
    APOLOGY

On FACEBOOK a coupon for Free Airwick Ribbon Candle has been illegally uploaded onto the system and gone 'Viral'. This is not an endorsed or approved Woolworths promotion and is not redeemable in Woolworths Supermarkets.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused.''

    Remove ticket 2/07/2012

A few questions for the ''truth machine'' at Woolworths:

    1. If this was not an ''endorsed or approved Woolworths promotion'' then why:

    a) did the Airwick redemption flyers feature Woolworths livery and logos?,

    b) were thousands of these flyers able to be scanned at Woolworths cash registers nationwide allowing completely legal redemption of multiple Airwick candles by thousands of customers for free?,

    c) did Woolworths fully participate and allow such a totally legal free redemption barcode to be activated on its national computer systems.

Of course the entirely logical alternative is that little green men landed at Woolworths corporate HQ and snuck into their national IT centre to allow all the above to occur.

    Cue…. Twilight Zone theme…

To then try to cover up the above total marketing stuff up by posting in-store notices that effectively insult totally legitimate customers - by inferring that they have acted illegally - is insulting in the extreme.

Each person who obtained the publically available flyer and redeemed it within the redemption period acted entirely legally.

To have marketing morons now try to deflect blame onto customers for their own failure to issue unique barcodes for each free redemption is Orwellian in the extreme.

How do fellow OzBargainers feel now that Woolworths is saying that you acted illegally and in effect now calling you - and many other totally legitimate customers - thieves?

Update for anyone interested - they're sending candles out to people they can verify as being their friend on Facebook.
