Kogan Mobile eSIM Issues

Ported out from boost physical sim to Kogan eSim on iPhone 13 Pro Max. It’s been 5 days. Incoming calls and text are fine. However, outgoing calls, text and data features not working. Calling a phone number says Welcome to Kogan Mobile. Your number is not activated. Please go to Kogan mobile. com. au/activate to activate your service. I already scanned QR code and did activation. Kogan support also tried with new eSim but same issue. I can’t port out to another provider as I don’t have outgoing sms feature to reply to porting request. Feels like I’m trapped with Kogan now. Any suggestions?

  • Feels like I’m trapped with Kogan now.

    Welcome to Kogan

    Yup.

Not much you can do till they sort it out. Try calling support again and again till they do.

    • Thanks @Hybroid. I'm thinking of buying Boost Cashrewards deal today and getting a physical boost SIM to port out from Kogan.
I am concerned because Kogan support told me I can't port out to other provider due to no outgoing SMS feature. I think it shouldn't be a case.
Boost support team should be helpful to switch from Kogan Vodafail. Just checking if any fellow Ozbargainers have any experience similar to mine.

        Don't do that.

The port request might fail and need manual intervention to activate as a new number, rendering the cash back invalid. You might end up getting no cash back, and a new number if it all fails.

Go buy a $2 sim (Coles, Woolworths, Amaysim, whoever) and try porting to that first. If it works, go Boost.

        • Yep, that's a good idea. Kogan support just updated me that they're sending physical sim by snail mail.
It may take 3-5 business days. I do not want to wait for next week. Unfortunately, United petroleum ran out of Kogan SIM and 7/11 stopped stocking them for future. What a timing. Floptus situation also fuelling up physical SIM shortage.
I'll buy Amaysim and try to port to them and then Boost.

  • How about Aldi sim for porting out?

Have you tried Reset your Network Settings to clear the previous carrier settings? Could be worth a shot.
NB: Performing this will also wipe any saved Wi-Fi networks, but if you're okay with that, go for it.

    • Yep, did it. Support team told me to reset it up after my 15th call to them. Still same issue: no outgoing calls, sms and data 😔

May not be the case but might be worth checking iPhone settings.
In particular making sure that your default call line is set up correctly. Its odd you can get incoming calls etc. but can't make any. Earlier this year I ported from one carrier to another (e-sim to e-sim i think cant remember tbh) but I ended up with two plans under settings for the same number but with the two different carriers.

Settings > Mobile > Check the correct plans are on/off and the right one is set to primary. Likewise that the default voice line is on the correct plan.

    • Yep, tried it as well. Primary and business lines. Using primary call fail screen. Business line says your number is not active. Still incoming and text message are enabled.

  • However, outgoing calls, text and data features not working.

You need to switch to their premium plans for outgoing calls.

Is it real jv? Thanks for your comment. I’m lucky not to be on their premium plan otherwise it may add to more frustration.

  • Hows things going OP? Did they sort you out? I was considering porting to Kogan but now im not sure.
