Second Hand Car Dealer Asking for Extra Money

Hi guys, I traded my VW Golf with car dealer couple of weeks ago.

Also added some extra cash on it and bought another car from him. Randomly, he called today and told me that my car has some transmission issues and asking $3k for fix it. I did not know about transmission problem, it was my daily car. Until the day I sold, I was using everyday around 90-100 km per day due to my job.

We did all paperwork that day about purchase, when we changed the cars and money. What would you guys do? Should I try to negotiate or ignore him? I don't want to deal with him, I did not even know about problem before.

You have the car and it's registered in your name right? if Yes then tell him that there was no warranty on the car he bought so there is nothing you can do about it.

Sounds like it's the car dealer's problem.
what did they expect when they received a secondhand euro…

Do you have the other car yet? If so, ignore him. Deals done.

The paperwork you did, was there anything mentioned about the repairs and maintainence after the sale? If not, you're not legally liable for any cost.

    Enjoy your new car.

Lol tell him that's his problem now if you already have the 'new' car

Block his number. Or every time he calls tell him you're making a deposit right now and fart into the phone, laugh, and hang up.

If you ever have problems with your new car, specifically ask to speak to someone else at the dealer.

Tell him to go jump. Better still, just ignore him. It's his problem.

        That's crazy!

I didn't know you could even do that.

ask them if they chose to take out your extended warranty option, and if not, unfortunately they are outside the statutory warranty of 0 days that a consumer must offer a second hand dealer on a trade in.

That is fantastic, op could record the conversation and put it on YouTube.

Block his number and move on with your life. His problem now.

It’s his problem. If you weren’t aware of any issues and they were happy at the time of trade, then it means bad luck to him. Could also mean he’s bunging it on to try and stiff you out of more money

Just hope your new car doesn't develop transmission issues…

  • is it possible they couldnt sell it at their expected price? or they may have made mistake in the valuation.

    • +2

they probably have but that's their problem as they are "industry professionals"

  • Tell the dealer to Go kick stones.
The transaction is finalised, and complete.

Tell him your car blew a piston ring and is spewing grey smoke, if he is happy to warrantee your car, you will fix his :P

  • Sounds like he over valued the trade in and was told to try it on and get some money back.

If the new car is now registered in your name just block his number as he doesn't have any recourse now that the paperwork is done and the deal finalised.

  • Is there an option to laugh in his face?

  • He cannot do a thing about it! As everyone here says, ignore, ignore! Tell him to get stuffed! If the shoe was on the other foot there is no way he would help you.

    • can do that now, send them an invoice for double the amount, claiming the car smells inappropriate.

  • Well OP?

    How did you handle this?
