TRS Claim > $1000 - Do I Use My Home Address in UK or Hotel Address in Oz on Receipt?

I’m a bit confused by the TRS claim guidance. It says I should ensure my address is on the tax receipt if over $1000.

I assumed that meant my home address, but Apple said I should just put my hotel address that I stayed at in Australia.

Can anyone confirm which is correct please?

I've had all sorts of addresses - friends, family, companies, etc on the invoices for TRS claims and no-one has ever seemed to care enough to ask any questions. Never been refused a claim either.

You can probably get Invoice address as your overseas address and Delivery address as address in Australia on the invoice from the seller.
Delivery address can’t be overseas address as you are carrying the goods with you!

Guardian is coming up with some funny stuff these days. I wouldn't trust their logic on taxes.

There is a duty free threshold. I'd assume some people might be taking $3k of products and save $300. But if you are at the airport 3 hours in advance all the cost of people employed at the airport and etc (assuming they are paying full taxes) the government is making a bucket load.

It is like the stage 3 tax cut story. The government is losing $170bn over 10 years, then goes to $250bn. For every $7bn they are losing they are collecting $30bn. If nothing has changed (only salary inflation) the government is collecting $300bn more taxes (approximately). They don't tell you that for $80bn so called loss (money they don't have in the hand) they are getting and extra $300bn (which they haven't told us what they are going to use it on, that is before the extra money they collect as part of the base case of $170bn.

The best one is the chart where 47% (bottom) of tax payers pay 5% of tax, maybe they should solve that problem (not higher taxes but how to get those people higher paying jobs).

      • Are you saying that the government is gaining money from the stage 3 tax cuts? In a before/after sense, I mean. I’m not quite following that part.

They should abolish the tax-free threshold (18k?), and really grind those poor people into the ground. Get a decent job you layabouts!

But, mostly, I catch your drift

        • The government wants you to think they are losing 80bn more now than the 170bn they initially thought. For them to lose 80bn (since it is a 7% tax cut) 80/7 is ~11.5. The 11.5 x 30% they are still collecting is an additional 345bn. They don’t tell you that do they?

@tharlow - never heard word “rorted” before!

I’m a Brit going home to UK, and not returning to Australia, so I won’t be one of those Ozzies “rorting” the GST claim.

    • Only 82% are rorting, so I do apologise if I implied you were not one of the honest 18%. On the balance of probabilities, and on further reflection, I guess I did…

So, once again, please accept my most profound apologies. We will be sorry to see an honest non-citizen leave our shores, and we pray for a quick return

Just in case anyone finds this looking for the same answer. The address doesn’t matter - don’t know why the app mentions it, I think it might just be an old rule.

Only important thing is name on receipt matching passport for over $1000.

The queue was crazy even at 8am at Sydney International. Only three agents, but got there in the end.
