Advice on Adding an iPad to Telstra Plan

Hi all,

Does anyone have experience with extending a Telstra mobile service to an iPad? I've got a family member who would like to stream Netflix while undergoing monthly medical treatments. They currently pre-download everything however it would be nice if they could do some browsing and music streaming every now and then while not connected, in the car etc.

I believe they're on a $60 per month plan with 40gb data. The plan is "Basic - Mobile Plan" and it's month to month. Would there be a better option. Devices are owned outright.

Would prefer to stick with Telstra due to better coverage.

Thanks!

Boost Mobile does full Telstra retail network and will be much cheaper than a Telstra iPad plan.

Woolies mobile is also not bad, whilst not full telstra network, but u get monthly grocery savings

Telstra is unmetered when you hit your cap, at 1.5Mbps iirc. Which is enough for browsing and listening to Apple Music. Probably enough for standard def video tbh. Telstra also let you change to a higher plan and then later back to a lower one. Despite being so expensive Telstra has actually improved their value proposition a lot compared to 10 years ago.

Medium plans are $55 for 75gb plus iPad cost over 24/36 months

OP has devices already, but it's good to know that if you do get a device payment plan you can end it early without penalty, other than having to pay off the rest of the device, but there's no extra fees or interest and you can cancel your service plan too because they are all monthly now (unless you get a special deal through JB Hifi or something which does have a regular contract).

I remember the halcyon days of a $5 data share SIM. I was quite upset when they removed that.

    • So is that not possible with Telstra?

It used to be a data pool and you could add a sim for $5 a month so my phone and iPad had the same data allowance
