Travel Towel Recommendations

I'm looking for a compact, quick drying towel for travel. If it comes in its own carry bag then that's a plus. Does anyone have any recommendations?

    • Material: Polyester

      no thanks…

    • These will do the job. They certainly don't feel as lush as luxurious cotton terry towel, but ticks all your boxes.

I have one for when I go swim. After laundering they air-dry quickly enough to be used the next day! And yes, while they're made of polyester, polyester nowadays is far far cry from three decades ago.

Best recommendations are in 'Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy'.

It's a tough galaxy. If you want to survive, you've gotta know where your towel is.

And be a real hoopy frood!

This one does the trick real good.

    • I do have this for my car and thought about using it for myself haha

The Kathmandu ones are great. I’ve only ever gotten them practically free through a voucher + sale, but for $50 it’ll last years. My oldest one is easily 10 years old.

I’ve got a bunch of those, as well. We’ve started using them instead of bath mats because they dry quicker.

They come in their own carry bag. They are, often, on special.

    Another vote for Kathmandu.
I've still got some from 20 years ago and they are still going strong. I use them regularly, especially in winter, when it takes towels longer to dry on the line.
Whatever brand you choose, buy the largest size they have - XL or bath sheet.

The Kathmandu ones above and similar Sea to Summit ones from Anaconda are great if portability is your main goal.

I've started taking my Tesalate towel when travelling. It's more compact than an average towel when rolled up, but it's about the same size, which makes it better for sitting on at the beach when you're on holiday. The small size was one of my least favourite things about travel towels, they dried me well enough but no good to lay on and read at the beach.

I was going to suggest a Matador towel but I noticed the prices have jumped up on Rushfaster.

https://rushfaster.com.au/collections/matador/products/nanod… Here is the older model which seems reasonably priced.

    Great question OP.

Since purchasing the Packtowl Personal, I haven't used any other towel for travelling. I purchased the smallest one, and it comes with it's own carry bag.

Ultralight, super small, and once I've dried myself, it'll fully dry overnight.

    A similar alternative could be:

  • Thanks everyone, ill give these a close look!

  • Sea to Summit make great gear,
and you can look into their 'quick dry towels',
    but they are not cheap

Otherwise, I've used Kathmandu towels (eg. old micro-fibre style) and they're decent for the price.
I just look for towels that pack down well, because weight and volume are a factor for me.
