Is There Any Benefit of Telstra Postpaid Vs Boost Prepaid?

Is there any advantage of going with Telstra over Boost these days?

The main things I can think of are:

  1. The Boost 5G trial is coming to an end soon. We are still not sure what will happen after the 5G trial ends.

  2. International roaming is not available on Boost. Telstra has it available at a price.

  3. If you want a shared number for something like an Apple Watch, Telstra lets you add that on but Boost does not.

  4. Telstra better for bundling plans together, although at a significant price

I think other than that they use the same support staff?

is the 5g really a "feature", how often do you need to download a large file

telstra is billed by the month and not 28 days
telstra is better value when you take up a jb or the good guys plans

    No 2 kind of wrong
Boost has free wifi calling, receive sms free anywhere

    • Do you mean wifi calling is disabled on run-of-the-mill telstra??

  • As a owner of an apple watch cellular, I have never used the cellular function after the first month of trying it out. It drains way too much battery, and the extra 5$ per month is just not worth it for the little use it has.

  • Pros and cons of Boost.

-Telstra coverage, 5G included, trial ended but it still works.( Pros)
    -No Apple Watch plan.(Con)
-No roaming, but if you are connected to hotel wifi or a cafe on holidays or business, Wifi-calling can help make calls back to Australia ( its free of charge). (Pro)
    - Half the price pf Telstra prepaid ( Pro)

Pros and Cons of Telstra Prepaid.

-Roaming available but at high cost ( Con) can use Wifi Calling to overcome this. or use local sim to call other countries than Australia.
    -Continous 5G (pro)
-No apple watch plan on prepaid ( Con) Yes on postpaid ( Pro)
-Expensive from boost prepaid ( Con)

I moved from Telstra postpaid to Boost for a couple of months now. Noticed there is basically no difference in terms of coverage / data speed, etc.

Boost not having international roaming is no big loss, since telstra charges $10/day for 1GB. I can probably spend $20 and get a local sim that will last me the whole trip and with data to spare.

My wallet is much happier after the switch!!

  • Is there a Boost type provider that does have Apple Watch support? I'd love to leave Telstra but the watch support is a killer.

    • In the same boat, however I don't really use watch only, I always have my phone on me too. Currently only Optus, Voda, Telstra listed as support.

  • Boost does have international roaming again now… They took it away for a upgrade when COVID hit ..need to buy a add on to use.. but can receive sms ok when in a country that allows telstra without addon
