What's The Difference between These Two SSDs?

After missing out on the 970 Evo Plus I noticed that SE also had the Seagate Firecuda 510 however I noticed there were two links with different prices.

Could one be perhaps the older version of the 510?

Also, how does the 510 compare with the 970 Evo Plus?

Thanks!

  • You would need to use google to search for the SKU's: ZP1000GM3A011-S & ZP1000GM30011 and check the real specs to see the difference as SE specs show some differences, but not why they are named the same.

    • Doing that now haha

        You having trouble using Google?

    • I got curious… Seagate's website links both SKUs to the same datasheet, in which there is no mention of the ZP1000GM30011.

Interestingly on that page both those SKUs are are noted as "1,000 GB" in the model name, whereas other SKUs are called "1 TB". All have capacities listed as 1 TB.

I'm curious if the "-S" is for superseded, as I couldn't find the model with "-S" on Seagate's site.

      • There are speed differences on the shopping express web site.

My guess is that the differences are in the FLASH IC's used as one is faster then the other or the interface IC is different.

If you have been following tom's hardware guide for a few years these changes are slip streamed, until end users find out that what was reviewed is not what they bought as the speed is slowwweeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

        • At least in this case it is a different SKU, and as you've noted the specifications on the vendors site differ between the two, so it's not a hidden change like the ones we've had recently with swapped ICs but same SKU (AFAIK - haven't read too much into that débâcle, my knowledge here is anedotal at best).

@Chandler: shopping express is NOT the vendor, but the retailer.
