Recommend a Multi-Port (USB-C + USB-A) Charger for Small Devices

Use-case: for small devices like phone/watch/kindle/headphones/bike lights/raspberry pi - I don't need to power a laptop or anything intense

Nice to haves:
- USB-C port (preferably can quick-charge a Samsung S21)
- minimum 2x USB-A ports, preferably 3+

Also any trade-offs, eg, if I'm powering a raspberry pi and then plug something else in to charge, will it drop the voltage to the pi?

  • Problem with a lot of these multi-port chargers that share output wattage between ports is they often cut power to all ports when you plug something into another port to switch power output. Not a big deal if you're just charging things but it will mean your Pi will probably reboot everytime that happens.

No experience with the Arlec one above, but 3A or 15W maximum output isn't a lot to go around if you want to power a Pi along with other devices, and definitely not suitable for quick charging your phone at the same time.

My recommendation would be to use a dedicated wall plug for the Pi that can output enough power for your Pi's use case and then have a multiport charger for the stuff you want to charge.

    • I was somewhat expecting this, but good to confirm.

  • Personally I have the Anker PowerPort+ - definitely recommend, but it looks like it may be discontinued (unavailable).

    * Takes a figure-8 cable in the back, so if I travel I just unplug the box and take it with all my charging cables attached along with a second figure-8 cable
    * 60W is plenty for my phone, watch, and anything else I want to charge.
    * USB-PD for fast-charging of USB-C devices (potentially laptop/s, although I think the port is limited to ~30W)

If discontinued, the replacement looks to be either the this or the this. The former looks ok: is quite slim (GaN charger), and whilst it has less ports it does have 2 x USB-C (20W+45W). Does look to have an LED on top, which is why I don't like the second option as I mine lives on the bedside table and LEDs could be annoying at night.
