Qantas Lounge Seems Pretty Average?

Finally got to travel again and checked in to the Melbourne Qantas Lounge. I'm surprised the cutleries seem very tired looking and the selection of food very basic. I thought I was in the wrong lounge!

  • melbourne qantas club lounge? yeah it's fairly basic - toasties and some random warm dish is about all you can expect. Try the other lounges if you have access, the amex one is a little better.

The standard Qantas club lounges are average
The Qantas Business lounges are the good ones (although only accessible in business and FF loyalty from memory).
Qantas didn't receive the shonky award for nothing.

Having said that the Virgin offerings aren't that much better.

My best experience was the Singapore Airlines Silverkis lounge in Changi, that takes lounges to a whole new level.

    • I remember Admirals Club was pretty good…

      Premium whiskeys and Godiva chocolates.

    • SilverKris lounge is amazing. But if you're flying Oneworld business, Qatar premium lounge in Changhi is even better.

Yeah Brisbane had ham and cheese sandwiches and thats it. Coffee machine was broken. No booze until 12pm so that was out.

Plus I treat it to get away from all the riff-raff but there is just as much riff-raff in the lounge.

The quality of the lounges (amongst many other things at the Flying Rodent) have continued to slide in recent years.

I gave up paying for lounge access many years ago and now only get in if I've racked up enough FF status credits or am travelling with someone who has access.

The irony of it is that lounge is often of no better standard than the food court, cafes, etc. that are otherwise available. And if you want something decent to eat that's usually the place to go anyway.

      Flying Rodent

Haha I’m going to use that!

  • The entire airline industry is operating under the illusion that Covid never happened and they didn't all just nearly go bankrupt.

Between shitty QF lounges and buying cups of noodles on VA, there ain't gonna be any frills for a while now.

    • The entire airline industry is operating under the illusion that Covid never happened and they didn't all just nearly go bankrupt.

Not so sure about that, besides perhaps airlines pretending the customer experience is up to snuff. Alan Joyce was fully cognisant of the cost-cutting measures he thought were necessary to keep his pay packet. Because firing experienced baggage handlers is a great idea.

Qantas sucks in general. I don’t understand why people bother paying a premium to fly with them. Waste of money.

Agree! Premium price for an unreliable airline that will lose your bags.

        CEO is a moron too.

  • I think you expected too much :P.
The Domestic Business Lounge is "ok". Enough to not feel hungry, get a drink and all that without paying extra (considering the cost of the fare/points already to get in). International normal lounge was pretty meh.

If you were expecting something neat it would have to be the First Lounge.

    • What they were offering I felt was no different to any of the cafes in the airport, where you can get a drink for a couple dollars so the value proposition was kind of low for me.

If you're working off complimentary lounge passes never waste them on the Qantas Club, they're absolute garbage. Domestic business lounges are ok but nothing special. If you can save passes for International business lounges during long layovers. I used mine for a 5 hour layover in Singapore in the Qantas international business lounge and that was worth it.
