Can I Still Port Number after amaysim plan Has Lapsed?

Quick question: waiting for my new Kogan sim. Left it till too late to get a new sim, my amaysim plan will end today. Can I still port the number out 2 days after my amaysim account has ended?

your SIM must be able to receive SMS messages in order to complete the port out request — try sending a text message to your number and see if you can receive it.

If not, go to your amaysim account and change your plan to PAYG perhaps and load some money into it to keep the service alive.

    • Ah right, didn't think of that!

True for an automated process, but you can phone them to get around that, e.g. if SIM lost.

the gaining provider shouldn't be going around the port sms. If the customer can't provide the SMS (if they have lost it in your example), they should get a new sim first and then do the request OR if there's a store (like Vodafone, Optus etc), they can go there to show proof of identity

  • Ok, thanks. Probably a bit complicated/ time-consuming but good as a last resort.

With Amaysim, you should be able to receive SMS and calls for a good number of months after the recharge has expired. They move you onto PAYG automatically.

    • Do you know if it also works to keep a Catch Connect number after the plan expired?

Amaysim numbers don't lapse until 12 months after a plan is expired. I currently have an Amaysim number that expired 4 months back, but get SMS on it. So you should be good there. I guess the policies range from 90 days to 12 months across carriers (as per various posts and comments in OzB), so you could confirm regarding your CatchConnect number as well.

    • Thanks! Do you know if it also works to keep a Catch Connect number after the plan expired? Couldn't find info - how can I quickly research this?

Found this on their critical info summary link (https://catchconnect.com.au/cms/catch-connect.pdf):
        Service Expiry
To make standard national calls and send standard national SMS and MMS, you need to have credit available on your service. If your plan is not set to AutoRrecharge and you do not recharge your plan, your SIM will remain active for 90 days after your last recharge expires. If you do not recharge again during that time, your SIM will be cancelled. You will require a new SIM card to use the service, and you may not be able to continue using your mobile number.

        • Awesome thank you very much!

My mother's Amaysim plan expired and wasn't recharged for almost 5 months. No incoming SMS or calls. Thought the number was gone but was able to log into the mobile app and just choose the 365 day no credit plan option for $0 and got it up and running again
