Costco Digital Membership Card Launched

Looks like Costco have finally launched a digital membership card via their app for iOS and Android.

Q: Where can I use my Digital Membership?
A: You can use your digital membership to enter the warehouse and at the Checkout and Self-Check out Kiosks (Self-Check Out not available in all warehouses)

A: Not at the moment, but we are working on a solution to bring this feature to our members in the near future.

Q: Can I add my Digital Membership to the Wallet on my device?
A: At this stage, your digital membership can only accessed through the Mobile App.

I just downloaded the app on Android and logged in to try and set it up.

Firstly, "The Digital Membership Card" button was not visible on the "My Costco" tab for me so I thought maybe they had launched the PR campaign but not actually rolled out the app updates yet however a little bit of playing around on the app and I inadvertently got it to show by doing a swipe down and hold motion as if I was refreshing the page (similar to how the KFC app used to be for accessing the Secret Menu). In doing this the button appears for about 1 second and I was able to quickly press it and start the process of setting up my digital card. I've taken my photo but still need to go into the warehouse and have it verified as per the requirements.

Not sure if the inability to plainly see the button is because of my phone screen/size (Galaxy A52) or just a poorly implemented porting from iOS to Android or because I'm a Business member or something else entirely.

For people who fill up at Costco you still need the physical card for fuel but I guess now you can just leave the card in the car and you have the app on your phone for everything else. Saves you carrying it around everywhere if you only use one vehicle regularly.

        My button isn't showing yet on my Galaxy Fold 3, on either screen, so shouldn't be a screen issue.

        I'm also a Business User.

            It's only available for quick purchases at the moment.

      Not really, you need to take a photo as part of getting a digital card.

      You'd still get a physical card for use at the fuel pump.

        I see. Would be nice for them to go full digital. Like you can load your rewards cards into the phone wallet so no real reason for a physical card unless Costco likes the idea of people losing it or forgetting it when they go to the pump. 😕

          I've never filled at Costco so I've not seen the pumps but I'm assuming since you have to swipe your card first that they would have to update the hardware on the pumps to be able to read a QR code which is something they'll have to roll out before going to full digital membership cards.

            @daanish: Could just be scanning a barcode, but the issue with digital is that its shareable. If they dont care, then they will just let it scan and then more people can access costco fuel.

    What is it meant to look like? I've got a "My Costco" menu at the bottom and all it does is show my name, dob, membership card and status. No photo/barcode. Wouldn't they deny entry/checkout since theres no photo

    Edit : sorry just clicked the link. Mine doesn't look like that :/

      Try swiping down on the My Costco page to see if it reveals the "Digital Membership Card" button as I described in the OP.

    I just used it through the Stocard app at the Casuarina petrol station…

    I just swiped down and managed to click the "Digital Membership Card" button in the half a second that it showed up. I took the photo and it's showing as Pending. Not Business member, fairly normal sized phone, so I think it's an app problem.

    Worked fine on iOS. Took the photo and now I have to take it in store to get it validated.

    Bit useless at the moment for me, still need the card to use fuel stations or exit the Docklands car park.

        Just did it. Take phone and original membership card in and they activate it on the spot, took under 20 seconds to get it done.

    Glad to report that existing members can register on the app and claim a free great quality bag at the membership counter.

        I just walked into the store, registered for membership. On the way the same staff “advised” that if I enable the digital membership, I can claim a bag. Did that and they handed the bag over. Quite surprising. This was at the Marsden Park store @NSW.

        It’s in store, they have a free bag with auto renew as well.
