Ultra Wide Monitor Recommendations for Xbox Series X

My son who is an Xbox X gamer has asked for a new monitor for Xmas.

He initially wanted a curved one but now doesn’t.

I thought maybe an ultra wide one??
My husband suggested the LG 32GN550 but he has as much as an idea as me. Zilch.

I’d love some suggestions please. I’m looking around $400-450 - I know they can go into the thousands.

If you have links to purchase online even better!!!

Thank you all so much.

I Have No Idea about specs

Specsavers are pretty good if you have private health insurance.

    Look here

There already lots of info or you can post a question…

Then come back here to find the best price…

  • With the ultrawide you need to go bigger than you would normally choose for a normal format monitor - otherwise you end up with a not very high but wide monitor. Ie disappointing.

    38" is good.

I'm saving up for one of these…

Xbox does not support ultrawide resolutions. If you buy an ultrawide you'll end up with black bars on the sides of the screen. Look for a decent 1440p monitor instead, if you can find one that supports 120hz (or 144hz) that would be ideal.

When my son recently bought a monitor he was very specific about what he wanted. He would have been disappointed if I had just bought something

I know it ruins the surprise but maybe give him a budget and let him do his research and decide what he wants???

    • ^ This, especially if both parents don't know what they're doing. Could end up spending lots on the wrong monitor

Even if you did receive a recommendation from here, it still could be wrong as monitor specifications and requirements are different person to person.

  • If you get an ultrawide, definitely get a curved one.

If it's not going to double up with a PC though, then get a good 1440p 16x9 monitor instead, since as jk82 noted all Xboxes don't support ultrawides.

  • Don't get an ultra wide if the monitor will exclusively be used for xbox series x. As earlier mentioned, xbox doesn't support ultrawide such that you'll be paying more for extra monitor function that won't be used.

Depending on where your son plays, eg. at a desk, or on couch, then get a regular aspect (non-ultra wide) monitor with size to suit where he normally plays. Eg. a 32' would be good for desk, if not a little big, but will be small for couch play.

  • I think a wide screen monitor would be good.
