[Switch] Flying Tera Type Pikachu for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet via in-Game Mystery Gift

1460

This Pikachu has two unique characteristics:

It knows the move Fly, which it normally cannot learn.
Its Tera Type is Flying.
You can receive it by choosing Get via Internet from the Mystery Gift feature in your game, up until Tuesday, February 28, 2023.

  • Note: You will need to connect your Nintendo Switch system to the internet to claim this early-purchase bonus.

The user profile on your system will need to be linked to a Nintendo Account in order to connect to the internet. (This does not require a paid Nintendo Switch Online membership.)

It takes approximately 1 to 1.5 hours of play time before you can access the Mystery Gift feature.

This special Pikachu can be received in either the retail version or the downloadable version.

How to get in game

  1. In the Pokémon Scarlet game or the Pokémon Violet game, press X to open the menu. Press A to select Poké Portal → Mystery Gift → Get via internet (It takes approximately two hours of play time before you are able to access the Mystery Gift function.)
  2. The game will automatically save after the gift arrives

I think the option in the menu appears once you make it to the first Pokemon Centre

Will this Pika move at >5fps??

    • +3

      Pikapoo performance is Gamefreak's speciality

    • Could you elaborate for those of us not clued in on the joke?

      • +4

Pretty much every review so far has said that there are some good ideas around gameplay and the open world, but the performance is terrible.

      • -1

Apparently the Switch cannot handle the graphics of the game

        • This is what happens when a console is released in 2017, using the Tegra X1 chip released in 2015, is still being sold today.

It disgusting Nintendo still charges such high prices for absolute ancient tech.

          • @PainToad: Mate watch a video, the game looks awful and still stutters and pops like crazy.

The fact the breath of the wild came out 5 years ago and looks and plays like it is generations ahead of this game is embarrassing

          • +4

@PainToad: Not really the hardware's fault. More of Gamefreaks incompetence since there are games like nier automata and xenoblade that runs well on switch.

            • @azngamer: Did you not read what I wrote below?

              • @PainToad: No I did not but even after reading it, I disagree with not worth putting the effort in properly porting to switch.

A bad port will be a bad port regardless or hardware. Unoptimised games will run badly regardless of how decked out a pc is. The solution is not better hardware, it's developers acknowledging that for games to run on a different system, proper work needs to be put in

            • +2

@azngamer: Nier, Xenoblade, Zelda, Doom, Witcher, Hellblade, Alien Isolation, No Man's Sky, Crash 4, Persona 5, ni no kuni, etc, etc, etc.

Switch runs loads of games at extremely playable frame rates and with acceptable to great visual quality.

It's boggling how Pokémon just keeps getting things below what seems possible. I dunno. I am yet to experience a switch game that performed or looked so bad I couldn't continue playing (maybe Outer Worlds is close), but I must say Pokémon confuses me considering the potential and its same-system contemporaries

          • @PainToad: No, this is what happens when shitty companies copy first party nintendo games and have no idea how to optimise.

It's literally the same engine as Zelda, but they (profanity) all the optimisation. Same issue with the previous Pokemon game (although there, they didn't even turn shadows etc. on lol)

        • +6

No way is it the Switch's fault. It's Game Freak's (lack of) technical ability and terribly tight development timeframes. Apparently the game loads the entire world, rather than in chunks.

          • +2

@mackdiddy: Some amazing devs are still doing amazing stuff with the Switch.

But it’s at the point that getting a semi decent looking games running at a decent frame rate takes too much time (and dollars).

Soz. Gerry sorted me out a 9am this morning for a $48 pre-order. Whoever said he was a bad guy? Go-Harvey-Norman-GO!

Mine said: oop sorry delivery delayed we wont have any Pokémon copies till maybe Monday…

    • Bummer. I also pre-ordered Scarlet from Amazon but it arrived this morning.

    • Also pre-ordered from Amazon, delivery says today. Waiting by the door but it's getting closer to COB

      • Mine was shipped yesterday and arrived around late morning.

    • My dual steelbook arrived at noon from Amazon.

    • It may show up early suddenly? Has happened to me a few times.
      My copy arrived mid-morning today.

    • Learned my lesson with Amazon preorders. Sometimes you get them for launch day, other times you don't. I just go pick it up now.

    • That's weird, I pre-ordered from Amazon, received update yesterday, delivered this afternoon - Perth, WA.

    • I pre ordered on Amazon too ($48) and it's expected to be delivered Wednesday next week. I must be unlucky, every pre order I've done through Amazon has been late.

  • Thanks.

Got the games today but we are unable to find where the mystery box is.
Have linked my sons Nintendo account and then not sure where to from there? Can someone provide a step by step guide? Thanks.
