Apple 10th Generation iPad - Apple Had a Chance to Get This Right, and Didn't

I like a lot of people was excited when this was announced. Finally an Entry level iPad with USB-C. The one thing that put me off was the price, which is more expensive than the 9th Gen, but has a nice processor, screen. I thought Apple had finally released a decent Entry level iPad.

Then I read that the unit only supports Apple Pencil 1, which requires a 'lightning' cable. Why?????

A few weeks back, I read that the USB-C port is throttled! It runs at 480Mbps!

IE USB 2.

The same speed as the Ancient Micro USB/Lightning standard.

Why?????

Here is the article and being Apple Insider I assume is reliable?

BTW I AM typing this on a Macbook M1 Pro (Using a Logitech MX Keyboard), which is a fantastic product (But I wish it had a touchscreen)

    from what I understand:
    - USB C because it will be the standard in the future
    - Apple Pencil 1 because they also have the iPad Air 5 and iPad Pro 11.

If they gave it too many 'premium' features as seen in the air and pro, it would have too much of a cross-over between the 3 tiers offered.

The base iPad is for the average user and the $749 price is absurd basically because of the AUD compared to the USD.

    • US 449 right? 670 AUD + 67 AUD = 737 I thought it's not that bad. I personally will just buy the older gen at around $500+

    • Standard pricing ladder tactics

  • Finally an Entry level iPad with USB-C

That they were dragged to kicking and screaming so they were compliant with EU standards.

They didn't do this for a good customer experience, they did this to not lose sales.

    • they did it to comply with the -future- law.

The boards and chipset etc would have been designed initially to have lightning port, and quickly changed to have usb-c
So the port is just a lightning port in usb-c clothing

  • The camera bump was a deal breaker for me, I often have my iPad on the table and I don’t want it wobbling when I type on it. You also lose the headphone jack on the 10th gen… and yes Apple tax is ridiculous.

I ended up getting a 9th gen from the recent Amazon/office works price beat. 9th gen also looks thinner to me despite spec sheet saying otherwise.

I kind of like the home button anyway… but then again I don’t think I’m apples main target market.
