Lee Jean's from Amazon with Myer Security Tag

More a curiosity question.
I just had a pair of Jeans delivered by Amazon and they have a Myer security tag on them.

Has anyone had this happen before? I am going to return them to Amazon unless anyone can advise on how to get the tag off at home.

Tag is disc type about 6cm diameter.

  • Sold by Amazon or some dodgy dropshipper?

You may need a magnet to remove the tag.

  • I've fixed this by drilling a hole through the security tag and whacking it with a hammer so it falls off lmao
    YMMV

  • I purchased something from Dangerfield that also arrived with a Myer security tag on it. I took it in to Myer with my receipt and they removed it for me

    • Yeah but in this case, Dangerfield is actually sold in quite a number of Myer stores; Myer items aren't sold on Amazon

      • There a many labels that rent space inside the Myer store, concessions. Maybe it’s unsold Dangerfield stock that went back to the warehouse and was sold off at auction as a job lot security tag accidentally attached. Then dumped on Amazon.

You misread loulou1’s comment, as well as mine. They bought something from Dangerfield in a stand-alone store that had a Myer security tag on it.

And I know what concessions are, thanks. Worked in a department store for eight years.

Edit: And you did misread but can’t admit it, as you deleted this comment you made:

I was talking about OPs tag, and the fact it could be old Dangerfield stock, not Myer because “Myer items aren't sold on Amazon” I would never dare question your extensive retail knowledge. I think you may have misunderstood my reply was to you, not loulou1.

    Return and re-order

    • Yeh was planning to but price has gone up $52 on Amazon.

reorder with new price and return the unit with security tag to the new order

My Criminal Mind tells me that a cheeky bugger stole from Myer(security tagged). Bought from amazon (identical product without security tag). Then returned Myer stock to amazon for full refund. Leaving them with a free pant without a security tag.
Underpaid overworked Amazon workers may not have noticed the tag and just restocked the product.

My innocent mind tells me that you are correct

    • As far as I know, Amazon returns don't go back into general stock, at least in the US. That's why you see so many YouTuber's doing Amazon return unboxing, as well as stores dedicated to Amazon returns.

  • If there's no ink in the tag, a flathead screwdriver would pop them off real quick without any damage to the jeans.

No ink in those tags. (former employee)

A high powered magnet will also do the job.

Magnet to remove the tag. Check YouTube clips for how to.

  • If you have a strong magnet you may be able to remove with that.
If its a tag like this or similar just use a knife to split the casing at the seam and you can easily remove the ball bearing and sleeve which will release the pin. (Had to do this last week when missus came back from a shopping trip and they'd forgotten to remove from one item)

(Looking further at this video, this guy went to way too much trouble. Where he splits it here with a dremel tool can easily be done by sliding a knife between the seam. No need to cut or drill anything)

  • I'm familiar with this particular security tag. It can be opened with a particular type of magnet. Be cautious of trying to open it any other way, as it has dye inside in three sections.
