OurDeal.com.au HAS NOT Refunded a Deal That Closed down

wat do?

ourdeal.com.au had a deal where you could get $19.90 voucher for use to double that amount at a Yum Cha restaurant. I bought one then another.

But then the restaurant closed down before I could use the 2nd one.

What now? I 've contacted them before and they said they were refunding the money but it's been months now and still no action.

Anyone else had the same experience?

  • No doubt they would close after selling a voucher for $19.90 in which they have to give away $39.80 worth of food and another $5 to $10 to OurDeal.

  • I'd be pushing it, to ensure you have the refund prior to expiry of the deal, if it hasn't already happened.

  • Our Deal is one of the main offenders in giving group buying a bad name imo. They are a great example of scam artists masquerading as group buy. I have a similar problem and the customer service method seems to be Lie/refuse/lie/refuse I hate to think how many businesses have died or become unmanageable after engaging these companies in marketing.

    • "is one of the main offenders". Are you implying that there's a groupbuy site that isn't disreputable? Please do tell, because I've yet to come across one. None of them have a financial stake in the actual completion of the deal. Once they've got their commission, they simply don't give a damn.

      • I haven't tried them all so was being generous :-), so far though I have found Our Deal the worst of those I have tried. It's a shame the shonkys have taken over this industry though as it's a good concept.

  • I have tried all the major players in Sydney, and so far, the only bad experience I have had is with ourdeal. We had applied a coupon for $10 off, and the grand total was 19 (there was a confirmation screen), but they charged the credit card 29. Complained to ourdeal and they kept doing the good old copy paste response that scoopon used to be known for. Over and over again. It's like hitting your head against a wall!!! Needless to say no refund was given, and I will be definitely more wary of buying deals from ourdeal again.

    • You'll be "more wary of buying deals from ourdeal again"? More wary? You mean you'd bend over again, only slower this time…?

      • I'd only buy a deal if it was really really good, but if it was ok, I'd probably pass. I also wouldn't buy any expensive deals with them (probably nothing over 20 bucks).

    • Same thing happened to me twice now, each time I asked my credit card todo a chargeback and was done straightaway. I didn't even bother contacting ourdeal because I know they won't do anything about it.

    • In future take the $19 proof of charge to Mastercard/Visa/Amex you used
      They'll light the fire under the vendor

      In case of using AMEX they'll immediately revoke the money from the vendor until remediation is settled

      • Yeah next time I'm taking screenshots at the payment screen before payment to cover myself to complain to the credit card company. Otherwise it's just my word against theirs really.

  • Have you tried contacting the association of group buying. the name escapes me.

    But i had the same thing happen to me with deals.com. Business closed, and they refused to give me refund or deals credit (which is what i asked for).
    I sent about 6 inquiries, and all got the same copy and paste reply, it was so frustrating.

    I contacted the association and got a response in 5 days.
