Is It Possible to Return a JB Hi-Fi Item and Then Repurchasing Again?

So today I just bought a new macbook with the 10% off Ultimate gift cards:

I was planning to lodge TRS when I go overseas on December but I noted in the TRS website that for purchases over $1000, the receipt needs to have my name.
Does anyone have any experience returning an item from JB Hi-Fi when purchased using ultimate gift cards and then repurchasing again to get their name on the receipt?

Thanks everyone.

Visit store and ask for duplicate tax invoice with your name on it.

    • Will do. Thank you!

Just go back and ask them to update your receipt with full details.
(Not sure what the sales guy was doing not even doing basic name for a >$1k sale anyway, it's not like you just took a MacBook box to the front counter…lazy sales people these days :) )

Otherwise we will have a 'i now have two macbooks and jb won't refund one' post next week :)

Uhh responsibility is with the purchaser to ask for their name to be put on the receipt.

Uh no, the responsibility is with the seller to provide a compliant tax invoice when requested within 28 days of the request (unless the total is under $82.50).
It's the responsibility of the purchaser to request a tax invoice if they want one.

They get a tax invoice on every sale, getting the name added in is upto the purchaser.

Having done that exact job many many (many) moons ago, if you're selling someone something for >$1k (like a laptop) and you haven't even bothered to ask them for a name to put on the invoice as you enter it into the computer system (or pda), you're clearly just being lazy and an order taker.

Clearly its in the customers interest, but its also in the salespersons interest to actually put in some effort when completing sales etc.

I'll stand by my 'lazy' comment, with actual first hand experience of doing that job and plenty of pens with stupid engraved '$x million' club numbers on them from back when jb hifi wasnt just a place to buy pop vinyls :)

Just go into the store and let them sort it out. Just say you would like a compliant tax invoice, which for sales over $1k requires the purchaser's identity.

What did JB say when you asked them about updating your invoice?

    • Haven't went yet but will go tomorrow

Thanks everyone, will go tomorrow and hopefully it works out :)

  • Yes it takes them two seconds to fix up

  • I was wondering the same thing, about the return/repurchase. But unrelated to TRS. I wanted to check if I buy something today, before Black Friday, and then some deals comes up where it will be cheaper, Will JBHifi refund the difference like some stores do? Or can i refund and repurchase?

Update: Went to JB and they wrote a paper tax invoice that comes with the receipt.

    Thanks again everyone!
