PayPal Sometimes Doesn't Allow Part-Payment with Existing Balance?

Hi.

Does anyone know why this happens?

On my Paypal, I have 7 different credit cards.

I also have $20 in my Paypal Balance.

I tried to buy a $40 item from a website.

1) When I tried to pay with my Preferred card, I could buy with the entire $20 from my balance and the rest from my credit Preferred card for the other $20. Good, but I didn't have enough money in this card.

2) When I swapped the credit card to another card at the Paypal checkout, I had to pay then entire $40 from my credit card balance. There was no way to do a split payment.

Any ideas why?

This other card in 2) above was a "verified" card that I verified earlier. Does this matter?

  • I think if you choose a different card at checkout it won't let you choose your partial Paypal balance as an option anymore. Since you picked a specific card, Paypal must assume you want to charge the entire amount there instead.

  • Set the credit card as your preferred payment so it will select it by default. This will let you do part paypal balance part credit card.

  • Use Afterpay and your Paypal issues go away!
