85"/ 75" TV - Need Advice from TV & Sale Experts

I did find Lowest price ever on Samsung QN90B 75" Neo QLED $3488 It is also available at BING LEE where you can use 5% Cashback @ Shopback. Out of stock from Samsung's official store, delivery is free.

When I compare it to OLED LG C2 EVO it was very comparable, with even better brightness (@ Rtings & TVfinder.com)
it is $1000 more than Sony X85X, $200 cheaper than Sony X85X 85" & $300 cheaper than Sony X90X 75". But is better than all of them markedly in terms of (glare reflection, and viewing angle, sport (HRTZ)) & better marginally in (movies, SDR & HDR). Also noticed it has:
Audio 4.2.2 Channels with 60 Watt
HDMI 2.1 x 4

NEED ADVICE FROM TV & BUYING EXPERTS:
- I want 85" (preferably) or 75" TV, but the 75" OLED is too expensive, and 85" is a suicide. (My budget < $4000)
- I found this 75 QLED which is a bit comparable to OLED quality & better than other LEDs.

1) Do you think buying it now is better or waiting till BOXING DAY & NEW YEAR SALE will be better option?
2) Shall I wait till Samsung make a bigger sale (NOT necessary as not all models are in sale, also it is out of stock)
3) Shall I buy it and then keep it sealed in a box (before it goes away) till the new year, in case something is better, I will return this and then buy the other one?
4) Do you have any recommendations for a better deal alternative to this TV as 75" or 85" with same quality?
5) Is it better to buy it from Bing Lee & get 5 % ShopBack Cashback or JB Hi-Fi is better?

Buy c2 and never look back

  • QLED which is a bit comparable to OLED quality

No, it's not. Completely different technology and quality. QLED is just marketing for regular LED with quantum dot film rather than OLED's individual pixel light emitted.

Get an OLED even if it means reducing size. You don't need a 85".

Use rtings.com to look at reviews. They are the most trusted ones around. No one else's opinions matter.

    • You don't need a 85".

      This.
Bought a 75” inch and thinking back I’d probably prefer a 65” with better panel.
Unless you’re going for the in-your-face factor and/or regularly do showing for big groups, 85” is overkill.

    • I did compare this one with the mighty C2
I understand that this is OLED & this is LEd which is a completely different thing
      BUT
if you do compare them, u will find C2 is only MARGINALLY better in terms of numbers
have a look & tell me what u think

I think you might be missing the point. You can't overlook the technology and just look at the numbers. The picture quality of OLED and QLED can be very different when experienced in real.

The QN90B is very comparable in quality overall to the C2, it's an alternative, not a downgrade

      • Both have their cons, the QN90B looks stunning IRL. LED are making advances in dynamic backlight, this is what is making OLED and 'a good' LED a bit more comparable. https://youtu.be/LuJNLPTr2Rw

If viewer is not an expert, can’t tell much difference with OLED etc.
Get Sony x90 or x85 (J model for last year, K this year, but they are practically the same due to covid)
X90 has local dimming, X85 no local dimming but is good gaming and action.

Get size that is comfortable viewing the better. Not the bigger the better. If you’re in between two sizes, I’d reckon go for the smaller size. You’d get most angle view at once, rather than turning your eyes for the whole movie and be tired. https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/by-size/size-to-distance-r…

My own observation, 65/75 are the popular sizes.
55” apartment and small living room
    65” average house/living room
    75” big living/house room
    85” they always regret

    85” consider projector

    • I have an 83. I do not regret it, at all.

    • May I am u why Sony x 85/90 over Samsung QN90M95B despite (on paper, number wise) Samsung doing better?

      • The ‘better’ TV screen is a personal choice. Go with which you see as preference, in demo. Samsung is good if you like it. Personally I feel Samsung has the wow factor, while Sony has the more natural view.
At the end of the day, if you care so much on visual and picture quality and accuracy, then you would need to do calibration anyway. So would not be the exact picture effect you see in demo.
If one day each of us are the expert, you’d give different rating numbers on each product aspect.

As for OLED, QLED, local dimming etc, yes while there are technically technology differences internally inside the TV, at the end of the day it’s marketing to get us to spend more. I know quite a few will disagree, that’s alright :) keep it coming.

Many people said they can tell an OLED from mini LED, etc in 2022 it’s not always true. Feel free to check out this reviews. “OLED doesn’t automatically means the best”, “In 2022, you can’t almost could not buy a bad tv”, many more.
I respect the others have different views, this is my view. So I don’t reply under their comments :) I just share mine.

    1) Do you think buying it now is better or waiting till BOXING DAY & NEW YEAR SALE will be better option?

As I recall, last year's Black Friday prices weren't beaten until late Q1 this year. Whether or not that holds true, your guess is as good as mine.

    2) shall I wait till Samsung make a bigger sale (NOT necessary as not all models are in sale, also it is out of stack)

    As above.

    3) Shall I buy it and then keep it sealed in a box (before it goes away) till the new year, in case something is better, I will return this and then buy the other one?

What are the retailer's return conditions? They may not accept a return, especially after such a time. Also risking a DOA panel (low risk, but still there), and it will be impossible to argue that it was like that out of the box when you tell them in a month and a half.

    5) is it better to buy it from Bing Lee & get 5 % ShopBack cashback or JbHiFi is better?

I have no shares in either company. Buy from whoever is more convenient. Consider cash back a nice addition. No guarantee that it will be approved.

  • If you havent done so, go and watch some content you'd normally be watching on the same models.. Reviews dont always give you an accurate picture (pun intended) or showcase sensitivities you may have to particular types of artefacts.

I found some things on samsungs that i couldnt live with, so went sony. I found 85" to be the sweet spot for me and gave up some 'on paper' benefits like brightness, for size and better image motion/processing (to my eyes anyway!).

    Cheers

  • Thoughts on mini LED? vs qled vs oled

    • I recently bought a TCL 65” C835 and apart from a few quirks with it, it’s absolutely stunning especially for the price (paid $1449 plus another $100 gift card back from TCL).

Was a bit hesitant at first but reading a few reviews decided for the money it pretty much can’t be beaten. Sure I could have gotten a Sony/Samsung/LG for a lot more money for ‘maybe’ an incremental upgrade, but for the price it’s incredible difficult to beat IMO.

Review that swayed me a fair bit - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ORg5dkb_ggs

      • This is the one I'm looking at. Either the 65" or 75". Both seem great image quality and great price. Do you have any thoughts about 65 vs 75 for size? I currently have an old 60" plasma that seems good (from about 2.7m), but bigger is better yes? Also - what quirks?

        • I came from a Samsung 60" F8500 and this thing is bloody bright! HDR looks great, but I wish there was a few more 'tweaking' settings that most TV's have compared to the standard Android TV OS. I do also kinda wish I had gone for the 75", but at my viewing distance the 65" is more than enough anyway (probably about the same as your viewing distance).

I guess 'quirks' was the wrong word for it, more just the lack of some customisability compared to my old Samsung which can be frustrating (as well as the remote and certain functions on it which are useless!). Still waiting on an updated HDMI cable to take advantage of certain features from my Nvidia Shield compared to the inbuilt apps, but is well worth the upgrade from my old plasma which I didn't really think was possible until now.

Those who reckon size don't matter, are cheating themselves.

OLED is superior and by no means anywhere near comparable to the inferior QLED especially when view in dark environment.

No doubt you'll notice the big difference on AB side by side comparison.

But when you only have 1 TV at home with nothing to compare with, then you don't perceive much on image quality inferiority, whilst the 85" size wow factor will continue to WoW you on every occasion.

And if you're always watching in a bright room, then no brainer to go with the bigger size QLED that fits your budget.

  • 1) Do you think buying it now is better or waiting till BOXING DAY & NEW YEAR SALE will be better option?

Wait until Boxing Day. The longer you wait, the cheaper it'll be.

    2) Shall I wait till Samsung make a bigger sale (NOT necessary as not all models are in sale, also it is out of stock)

No, Samsung sales are not a sure thing.

    3) Shall I buy it and then keep it sealed in a box (before it goes away) till the new year, in case something is better, I will return this and then buy the other one?

No, this is… not a good idea.

    4) Do you have any recommendations for a better deal alternative to this TV as 75" or 85" with same quality?

No, the Samsung fits your budget so go with it.

    5) Is it better to buy it from Bing Lee & get 5 % ShopBack Cashback or JB Hi-Fi is better?

Bing Lee, but you can do the price comparison yourself.

  • This is hands down the best 85" tv under $4000 - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/739881

    Sony XR85X90K (Box Damaged^) for $3799

($3609 if you're a member of eBay Plus, which have had some great promos to sign up recently - just search on here, even at full price of $50 membership it's worth signing up)

Edit: there is also the Sony XR85X85J (Box Damaged^) for $2599 - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/739871

  • I bought the 77-inch LG CS and am incredibly happy with it.

Was tossing up between that and the 75-inch QN90B.

Eventually went with the OLED because of the better energy rating.

Both TV's are really good however.
