Best Opinion on Noise Cancelling Headphones

So what are the best headphones? I want a decent brand, that provides silence, so I don't hear the Mutt next door yapping, when I need silence, due to my stressful job. I would ask one of my lazy overpaid colleagues, but they are dickheads, and the reason why I am stressed.

    Bose QC45
    Sony WH-1000XM5
Airpods Max — Got these (daily)
Bose 700 — Got these (dont use them anymore)
    Sennheiser Momentum 4
    Bowers and Wilkins PX7 S2

    • Yes the 1st 2 fit the bill, and what I was thinking. Sony is one of the worst companies I have dealt with in 37 years of retail. There is only one company worse.

I forgot to mention USB-C only and no old tech like Micro-USB or Lightning.

I have some Denon headphones, but don't isolate all sound, plus they are old tech.

      • Sennheiser were always good.

Prob QC45 I'd say, I'm tempted in getting cos they're going on a decent price on Amazon (even though I don't need them).

        • Wow. What a price. Probably cheaper than what I can get them for staff price, though at least I can 'product care' them and recycle them if they are less than $400.

I just want to achieve silence, and not hear the dog yapping, or my girlfriends daughter 'singing' loudly and off key.

    • Airpods max, probably the best looking that apple have, but i cant still my kidneys online to pay for them.

  • The new AirPods Pro are pretty legit with ANC. The Max is meant to be good too. If you don't have an iPhone then you might consider something else.

    • Usbc?

      • I have a fold so downgrading is not an option.

        • AirPod will still work, on the Pro you just hold a bud and it switches between ANC, transparency, and normal mode. But you won't have a lot of the other features you would get if you used an iPhone. Plenty of people use AirPods with Android so it's worth considering.

          • @AustriaBargain: Return policy is shit on apple, and the margin is lousy.

            • @BewareOfThe Dog: If you buy from Apple right now you can return them 8 January, usually it's two weeks but they extend for xmas. Even if you've been using it you can return it.

  • One other thing is low latency. I have a macbook, so a 3.5mm input would be handy as i am a muso.

    • as i am a muso

Something that might have been useful in the original post, no? Just a thought.

      low latency

If you get the right headset and various Bluetooth adapters then AptX Low Latency could be useful. Dunno which of these listed ones support it though.

  • Does foxconn make bose and sony?

    • +1

Why does it matter? Foxconn is one of the better employers in China. And the suicide rate in the Foxconn worker cities is lower than all 50 US states, or It was in 2010 when this article was written at the peak of the suicide net hysteria https://www.businessinsider.com/apple-and-dell-investigating…

Australian shopping centres have suicide netting too.

      • Hmmmmm
I wish i read that last night.

I recalled today, an employee of mine (from 30 years ago)had a german husband of jewish descent. He didn't tell you that, but you could tell by the numbers on his lower arm.
One day he said the only reason he is still alive, is because his father worked in a factory for the nazis in ww2, and was known to smuggle food for prisoners, and saboutage the odd item.

        Rip Mr B

        • This is the police really doing this, not Foxconn. I think Foxconn is at fault because they should have seen this coming and made plans. If lockdown was possible then they should have built luxury accomodation and warned employees. Or they could have spoken to the local Party government and put a plan ahead of time, like clean shuttle buses to take employees home, or even pick them up for work if they didn't want to lose money during lockdown. Instead they had no plan in place and then this happened, even though this was entirely predictable. Foxconn is a big enough company to take responsibility for lack of foresight.

I really like the Sony WH-1000XM5 I got. Using it for dogs next door ATM!

    • how is it for phone calls?

      • Very good - I just tested a recording of myself

    • Any idea on the latency, via Bluetooth?

I know with **aptx*, you have to force macOS to enable it.

      ****Upd***
Just reading that it uses LDAC instead of APTX. Just need to see if there is a MacOS Codec. This link has a few guides
