Does This Ryzen 7 7700X 32GB 6000MHz Computer Build Make Sense?

Hello, I haven't built a new computer since 2017 when I purchased my current 7700k.
The build already includes a Radeon 6800XT which was purchased 2 years ago and I plan on upgrading in the future with a 4090 possibly.
The computer is only used to play games on a 4k 120hz display.
I have checked all these prices from the same store (https://www.bpctech.com.au) so I won't have to pay for shipping.

$500 - CPU - AMD Ryzen 7 7700X AM5
$299 - MOTHERBOARD - Asrock B650M PG Riptide WIFI
$055 - CPU COOLER - Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE
$359 - MEMORY - Kingston FURY Beast RGB 32GB 6000MT/s DDR5 CL36 DIMM (Kit of 2) -AMD ready
$299 - CASE - Fractal Design Torrent Tempered Glass Light Tint E-ATX Mid-Tower Case - Black
$189 - POWER SUPPLY - Corsair RM850X 2021 850W 80 Plus Gold Fully Modular ATX
$1701 - TOTAL

Some details:
This price includes a deal where you get CPU + motherboard for $799, saving $30.
Does it make sense to get that motherboard? Are there other options I should consider?
Memory is awfully expensive, I read 6000mhz is the sweet spot for the Ryzen 7000 so I'm getting that one. Is that the correct choice?
I could get a 7600X for $100 less but I don't mind the upgrade for this price.
I like that the Fractal includes 5 fans and it's a well reviewed case.
Thanks for the help

If you want it to work, You probably need a SSD… just saying… or was it implied you are keeping this along with your old GPU?
… keen to follow this thread though as I am currently doing a similar exercise for a PC replacement from about the same era

    • You are right, I forgot about it. I have an 1tb ssd and I will keep using it.

If you were to switch to intel and DDR4, you can have a stronger build at a similar/lower price, though. Just saying
    Either:
    13700KF $663(eBay) + MSI B660M(Pcbyte/Scorptec) $179 + 32GB DDR4 ~175AUD. Total $1560
    or :
    Intel CPU i7-13700K + MSI MAG Z690 TOMAHAWK Wi-Fi DDR4 (eBay) $998 + 32GB DDR4 ~175AUD. Total $1716
And personally, I would cut the cost lower by replacing that torrent case. Though very good thermal performance, I would prefer Fractal Design Meshify 2/compact, Define 2, R6, or Lian li lancool 215. Properly would cut your cost another $100.

Thanks I will take a look at those Intel options. I will consider a cheaper case. I thought about it for the future GPU upgrade.

I think 850w is fine, though, even for the 13700k. However, if you want to be sure, maybe try Corsair RM1000x. It is a highly recommended single-rail PSU with all Japanese caps and is currently on sale for 259AUD on Scorptec/Amazon (the cheapest I have ever seen).
And for the future 4090 setup, all the Cases I recommended have more than enough room. They can accommodate eATX boards.

DDR5 memory is expensive and the motherboards to support them are also expensive.

water is wet, black is black, stay tuned for more of the valuable info

      • How does this help OP or let him know about why the PC is expensive?

  • I'd either go higher on the PSU or look at a platinum one if you're future proofing for a 4090. Also look for a ATX 3.0 compliant one (less cables needed and better handles the massive power spikes of the 4090).

Buy these sticks Kingston FURY Beast 32 GB DDR5-5600 CL36
They will Sk Hynix M die as Kingston don't like using Samsung and Micron can't or struggles to do those speeds / timings. You can clock the Kingston yourself to 6000 or 6200. Source Buildzoid

If that's all a bit too much for you pay the premium to have the 6000 expo set.

  • Thanks for the answers. I went ahead and purchased the following configuration. Note that all parts from BPC have free shipping and I purchased the case in Umart so I can pick it up myself.

    $529 - CPU - AMD Ryzen 7 7700X Processor @ BPC Tech
    $332 - MOTHERBOARD - Gigabyte B650M AORUS ELITE AM5 Micro-ATX Motherboard @ JW (price includes shipping)
$055 - CPU COOLER - Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE @ BPC Tech
    $239 - MEMORY - 32GB 5200MT/s DDR5 CL36 DIMM (Kit of 2) FURY Beast RGB @ BPC Tech
    $159 - CASE - Lian Li O11 Air Mini Mesh TG E-ATX Chassis - Black @ Umart
$189 - POWER SUPPLY - Corsair RM850X 2021 850W 80 Plus Gold Fully Modular ATX Power Supply @ BPC Tech
    Total: $1503

I swapped the Fractal Torrent for the Lian Li O11 Air Mini, the 6000mhz C36 DDR5 for 5200mhz C36 and most important, the ASRock Riptide motherboard for the Gigabyte.

In my opinion the motherboard was the most important part. I really didn't feel like purchasing a bottom of the barrel mobo.
The ASRock has bad bios and it's a 6 layer pcb with 50A power stage.
There are two others in the same price point: Gigabyte AMD B650M DS3H and MSI PRO B650M-A WIFI and they are both as bad if not worse than the ASRock. Also a 6 layer pcb and 6+2+1 VRM. On a $330+ AM5 board.. What a joke.

I got a higher tier motherboard for a discount. 8 layer PCB with 60A power stage and 12+2+1 VRM.
