Your Thoughts on Skip The 4th Year High Cost Car Service to Maintain Warranty Due to Low Mileage Driven?

Purchased a Renault Koleos in 2021 May, car is really under km at the moment with 18 months since new and only driven around 9000km.

Our next service is due in May 2023, I estimate we would be doing less than 2000km, on it till then which means it will have a max of 11000km on it, come the 2nd service.

This is the service schedule and costs in order to maintain warranty:

12 months 30,000km $429
24 months or 60,000km $429
36 months or 90,000km $429
48 months or 120,000km $999
60 months or 150,000km $429

We are close to the 24 months service which will cost $429

Now unless something changes a lot by the time we get to the 48 months mark, the most our car will have on the clock will be 25000km. Which I think will be ridiculous to pay a service fee of $999 which is more intended for a car should have 120000km on it……………….

Of course, if I skip the 48months service the last year warranty will void, which I think it's worth it as $999 is just a bit too much to pay for a car which is very much under the km. (25000km by the time it hits the 5 years)

What do you guys think? Anyone bought a new car which has done the same?

  • You need to think about the resale value.

For those who think it's okay to skip service, don't be an idiot. It's not optional. You miss the due service and your warranty is null and void. You will not get protection under ACL.

Respect modern car engineering and physics. Don't assume. Not much car use is actually an abuse to the engine. Educate yourself with this 2 day old video.

    • Great video for people to caculate the risk of skimping on service

    There's your problem.

You bought a Renault in Australia, a low tier French car made in South Korea.

You'd be better off buying a Kia.

    • As a mechanic who works on Euros I can tell you tha tthere is nothing wrong with Renaults. I bought one for my wife. Kias arent better, they just have a 2 year longer warranty. Renaults have always been reliable. The key, like every other car, is proper maintenance.

  • Renault Koleos - Its already a ticking time bomb, you're now thinking about not doing the major service?
I'm guessing there is a belt replacement at least for that money, given you're asking about skipping it but wanting to maintain warranty shows you know nothing (aside from the obvious sign when you bought a Renault) so aren't hands on in any way to identify the condition of the current belt(s) or replace them.

If its a belt replacement i'd be doing it, it might be fine but well it's a Renault so it could easily fail and leave you stuck somewhere or do more damage when it goes.

Actually here is what they do on top of the normal items as found here: https://www.renault.com.au/capped-price-servicing/

    Replace Coolant
    Replace Accessory Belt Kit
    Replace Brake Fluid

So yeah there is a belt, also fluids.
