Everyone seems to be clearing out Non-OLED model.

    • EDIT:: Messed up my reply.

  • -1

Seems to me like a push from Nintendo themselves. Would be totally scummy if they then go ahead and release the new console next year.

    • That is the most likely reason.

    • +3

What’s scummy about discounting a 3 year old product and releasing a new product?

      • +7

        Close to 6 years old.

        • I was counting from the battery upgrade/security patch for this specific model.

I agree this is a poor discount given past deals, but that makes them no scummier than every other company that doesn't give an Ozbargain front page worthy discount all the time.

      • +2

Because it’s not their latest OLED model and also not even discounted all that much.
Any person would be gutted if they found out these things after buying this bundle, and more so if a new console releases next year to make their recent purchase basically obsolete.

        • So remain switch less for another 6 months at very least just in case a new one is released that will cost double this?

Also, a new switch doesn't render this obsolete, this will still play all the same small collection of quality 1st party games it was always intended to play.

  • +3

    Not a deal.

  • old model not OLED don't buy.

  • +1

Cmon Black Friday $50 off oled version is bull dust.. give us a real discount.
Non oled version won’t exist by next year once the new release comes

    • +2

It will exist in 100's of thousands of homes, maybe it won't exist on shop shelves you mean?

      • +1

Yes that is what I meant

  • -4

    A57 core is from 2013
    4gb 1600 LPDDR4 mem is 2012
    Maxwell gpu is from 2014
Panel is from 2015 revised in 2019

Stop buying it and force them to release somthing with tech from the last 3 years.

    • +1

This is Nintendo's business model dude. Nintendo Wii was one of the best selling consoles of all time, and it was a repackaged GameCube. That's why it has native GameCube support. Whilst Sony and Microsoft chase cutting edge graphics, Nintendo has been about the gimmick, for the last several generations at least. They package together cheap components and refuse to sell at a loss, unlike Sony and Microsoft who are willing to lose money on the hardware to gain money in software.

Nintendo's next hardware is likely to be much of the same, I wouldn't be expecting something cutting edge. Also, "stop buying and force them to release something new"? Nintendo switch has been a runaway success for them selling in excess of a hundred million units. They will not be taking anything negative from this experience.

      • -2

Agree, although they have been more about just gimmick but also about incredible quality 1st party games like MK, Zelda and Mario etc.

      • +2

        Yes, the gimmick of:

        • developing and releasing consistently high quality first party video games.

        • not letting themselves get caught up in the trap of spec-chasing when game design is the only thing that matters.

        • having a catalogue of characters, stories and worlds that have become the largest, most popular and recognisable fiction in the modern world.

        Hell of a gimmick.

        • +1

Come on mate. I own every switch version released. I'm not a hater. All I'm saying is, they focus on a gimmick for their systems to differentiate themselves from the competition. Obviously in addition to this they make great software, but how can you contest my statement?

          Wii - motion controls.
Wii U - motion controls plus wireless tablet, including remote play.
Switch - seamless TV to handheld play.

          • +1

@zulnoth: Innovating the methods of control and experimental, daring ventures into interactive gameplay isn't a gimmick.

You said, "Nintendo has been about the gimmick"

They have been all about innovation. The gimmicks were when Sony immediately copied the Wii Remote, and whatever version Microsoft attempted at motion-gaming.

They have now integrated all of those things you mentioned into the system to a point where they are the only next-generation console out, and have been for over a decade.

Microsoft and Sony's attempts to define console generations by the power of the graphics chip, as opposed to the generational change in gaming experience for the user, have failed. Both of their systems are just down-spec'd but somehow overpriced and restricted PCs with the same controller that the XBOX and PS2 had with slightly more ergonomic styling.

I never doubted the consoles success. It's just time to move on. Sales numbers have peaked. Quarterly sales are on a downward trend.

    • -1

Lol, another one caught up in the newer hw must mean better software myth.

      • -1

Lol, well there's real world proof that newer software (Pokemon Scarlet & Violet) looks and plays horribly on old hardware.

        • Of course. Everyone knows that more powerful hardware will miraculously turn poorly optimised and buggy games, into perfectly flawless games.

Just ask Elder Scrolls and Cyberpunk 2077 fans!

          • @pj1351: So you're comparing the optimisation and coding of Pokemon Scarlet & Violet (designed only for the Switch) to Cyberpunk 2077 (designed for multiple platforms and PC configurations) in order to justify your old overpriced Switch.

I guess this is what happens when Nintendo becomes part of your identity!

  • +2

Lol so many Nintendo fanboys/gals here in denial about how poor Nintendo’s form is for this ‘deal.’
I have absolutely nothing against Nintendo or the Switch in general, but the fact is that this bundle for this price is not really a good deal.

    • -2

Yeah, Nintendo should charge less than what the market has shown it is willing to pay for this commercial product because some people can copy and paste the specs into comment threads.

Anyone who thinks they shouldn't start losing money for this reason is a fanboy/fangirl.

      Great. Lol.

    • True on all points. Then you have people like Grish arguing that the software makes up for it lol. This may have been the case years ago, but look at Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. They clearly have reached their limit with the hardware.

      • +2

They clearly have reached their limit with the hardware.

Lol. That's what people like you were saying about the Switch with the original port of Ark.

… Then what do you know, the updated Ark port comes out, and it turns out that the exact same hardware was capable of producing very different results.

        • -2

Cope all you want but it's a fact that emulated Switch games look and play better on the PC, including the new Pokemon games. Just proves my point about the hardware and absurd price of the Switch. I get it, you people don't care about better graphics, load times, less crashes, etc. Good for you, but why bother shilling this overpriced piece of old tech on OzBargain of all places.

          • +2

@sildosaggins: Link to objective analysis of very different results with the same game on the same hardware, with a better looking game to directly mock the stupid idea that Pokemon SV represents a hardware limit: "Cope"

            Lol, sure.

My main PC has specs roughly on par to the PS5 (or better), for not much more than the price of a PS5. Doesn't change the fact that the Switch is generally a more convenient and comfortable platform for gaming than sitting at a desk all night (I do enough of that at my day job).

And "less crashes" on PC gaming? You certainly do have a sense of humour.

          • +1

@sildosaggins: Sigh - because it's still the latest and only official/legal way to play some of the greatest video games ever made.

Nintendo has always put quality before quantity (Sony/MS are quantity drivel before quality).

Fan Bois think only HW numbers matter, but they don't actually mean jackall if the intended experience is met.

Is this model easier to jailbreak / mod than the oled model? Or is there no reason to get this model anymore?

  • Is $300 for a 1 yr old oled model reasonable? No games included.
