Traditional Amplifier/Receiver Connected to Sound Bar - Can It Be Done?

I have a lot of tapes from many moons ago and I want to set up an AMP-Receiver-Tape-(maybe CD) system and because a) I don't have speakers and b) I don't like the looks, I want to connect it to a soundbar mounted on the wall above the stereo setup.

Has anyone of you done that? Depending on the AMP I get I was thinking HDI out / HDMI in. Is it as simple as that?

Appreciate your thoughts.

It will work fine so long as the sound bar accepts the input and can decode the signal. I'd imagine any sounder will accept PCM. So, so long as your traditional receiver will output the sound through a compatible output (hdmi, optical, basically whatever your sound bar has), then it will work fine… just look a little awkward.

Another option may be to get an audio-bluetooth transmitter/receiver

Plug the bluetooth transmitter into the AMP audio jack, and then connect bluetooth to the soundbar.

It can be done, but it depends on what inputs your soundbar has.
I reckon some soundbars even have RCA input.
But nigh on all have Optical Input

I have set up a record player to a Soundbar as below using this https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/155141299089
Record Player - > Pre-Amp -> RCA to Optical converter -> Soundbar Optical input

In my case (Bose 700) , the soundbar Optical Input over-rides the HDMI input if it detects a signal (even a null signal).
So in order to listen to TV Audio (via HDMI), I have a powerboard with master switch that power's down the Record Player, Preamp and converter when not in use.

Sound bars usually only have digital inputs. Can your receiver do anoalog to digital conversion?

    Thanks for all your input.
I have the https://au.yamaha.com/en/products/audio_visual/sound_bar/ats… with a headphone jack - I guess I could go RCA to stereo mini jack.
Makes it a lot easier now to go AMP shopping.
    Happy weekend to you all.

You wont need an amp. The soundbar has one inbuilt.
Tape deck straight into the soundbar, RCA to RCA, should work fine.
Buy a receiver if you want broadcast radio, otherwise, maybe an Echo Dot for streaming radio, they're cheap and have audio out.
