Help to Clean Adhesive Residue on Tiles

Hey everyone, I lifted the bathroom mat and discovered that the antigrip material at the bottom of the bath mat transferred onto the tile. I can't remove it with a scrapper and hot water.

What cleaning product could I used to help in this situation?

  • You’ll want an adhesive remover like below or equivalent.

Aerosol version might be easier to apply and let soak.

Read instructions carefully as well as safety labels. Probably want gloves and eye protection as a minimum. Maybe a mask if it gives off fumes.

    • +1 for Goo Off. Apply it liberally and let it soak in a bit to dissolve away the adhesive then with cheapie microfibre cloth rub it away. Wear gloves, it'll burn ya fingers and dont inhale.

    Isopropyl Alcohol

  • Try one of the following if you have any in the house:
    1) eucalyptus oil
    2) isopropyl alcohol

If you do not have these in the house google "remove glue" and see what you have and give it a try.

Tiles are glazed, so you can try almost any solvent without damaging them.
But you may need to re-grout afterwards.

I'd try acetone. It will not leave a residual smell, but you'll want the exhaust fan on.

Thanks mate, acetone did the trick. I tried adhesive remover, but it wouldn't remove it all so I went with acetone and it worked. But even with acetone I had to seriously apply some force and scrub hard to get it off.
You probably saved my bond mate, really appreciated

  • Gentle heat gun with a scraper to get most of it off and then isopropyl alcohol.

  • Eucalyptus oil; natural and works.

  • eucalyptus oil for sure and it smells so good

    • Don’t use too much or you’ll end up with a koala infestation.

  • Some WD40 or Double D floating around the house.

  • Had this myself last month from 2 mats after an extended away trip. Rubber backing appeared to separate and glue itself to the tiles.
Wet a towel..very wet, let soak over night, cleaned up easily but with elbow grease using only a plastic scraper, scourer and sponge.

Cheap mats, they were only about 15years old…what a rip!
