Need a New Fridge

Hey,
I'm currently using a separate fridge and freezer. I'm looking to buy a fridge that comes with a freezer. My energy bill is way more expensive than it should be and I suspect that's the reason why. I don't really have a budget but the cheaper the better. I live alone so it only needs to be big enough for one person and ideally one that's energy efficient. I have room to fit up to 79cm. Would really appreciate suggestions! thanks

Before going to buy a whole new fridge/freezer, might be worth getting something like this to see if it's really your fridge that's draining a lot of power.

The temperature settings on your existing fridge might have a lot to do with the amount of energy being used to, so have ae look at that.

    • I want to buy a fridge anyway, I only was using these for the meantime until I could afford a fridge. All I use for electricity is the fridge and freezer, my PC and a fan so I'm pretty certain they're energy guzzlers. They're probably super old with no energy rating. Good thinking about the temperature settings. I turned them down hopefully that'll help.

You may want to do your research though - if what you're using is fine now and you're spending hundreds on a new fridge to save, say.. $20/month in power bills, then is it really worth it? It'll take you a few years to even out the spend. (I'm pulling that figure out of my butt, but it's something to consider before buying).

There's a decent selection of fridges here, depending on your needs > https://www.appliancesonline.com.au/category/refrigeration/f…

        • Well it's not really ideal. I'm pretty over having them separate and the fridge is pretty small and I'm paying $300 a quarter. I seen people saying they were running aircon and had 2 people living there and were paying less than me. I am getting a loan that's interest free so it is worth it. I dunno if turning the settings down will make any difference. I'd have to wait and see.

            @Kkkzo:

            and I'm paying $300 a quarter

I live by myself in a one bedroom apartment and my electricity bill is usually $110-$130/month ($330-400/quarter) which seems pretty on-par with you. I don't have much at home either. Mainly laptops, fridge, washer and dryer (which is used once each week for an hour or so).

If it's a new fridge you want, go for it. I wouldn't really be expecting the energy bills to reduce that significantly though.

  • Don't forget to check the size of fridge area and your door

    • Depends, do you want to buy from a known brand, or is it a case of cheaper the better?

Side note, where's this coming from:

I am getting a loan that's interest free so it is worth it.

  • when you say freezer, is this a top loading one? those are super efficient.

  • It costs me $1.20 a day for the power connected to the house because the wanka government sold the power factories and now lease power lines to privatization.

Take off this line rental @ $110 1/4 year and work in how many KW extra the fridge will save/use is bugger all.

Buy a new Samsung fridge and watch it fail in 4 years and you've lost money.

  • "My energy bill is way more expensive than it should be…." It is what is should be for two appliances.
It may be more than it should be if there is a faulty appliance in your home thou……but. Seals, settings, or simply old inefficient models.
Has the usage numbers increased over the last 6-12 months unexpectedly?

Budget constraints… try Lifeline etc. They may even swap yours as a equal swap, or a trade in if you ask the right people.

Demo stock is the next best, still same warranty, maybe a scratch n dent sale, or wait for now the End of Year deals.

A different note…turn your water pressure down to half or just enough as is required for the shower, and turn the Water Heater down as well…every bit helps reduce the Electricity usage.

and I suspect that's the reason why

If only there was a way to verify this before you go and spend hundreds/thousands on a new appliance
