Difference between Shared Hosting and Managed Hosting if Shared Is Better?

Hi everyone,

I was comparing between hosting providers. Looking at this hosting for shared - https://robtec.com.au/cpanel-hosting/

And these guys for managed - https://www.clouways.com/en/pricing.php?ref_id=web_navbar#al…

The shared hosting provider uses Cloudlinux and so I'm guessing the website is isolated and I think that the resources are guaranteed. Resources are generous and higher according the the plans selected.

Note that email will be hosted elsewhere and the only difference according to my knowledge is that the shared hosting provider uses an ip address which is shared (but I don't think it would affect the sites performance or anything), both are isolated, what is truly the difference between the shared hosting and managed?

Comparing the Business plan from the shared hosting which has 6 cores and 8gb ram and the VULTR8GB plan from the managed hosting provider which has only 3 cores and 8gb ram. I only need 30gb storage and max 1tb bandwidth. The managed hosting will be around $150 aud a month whereas the shared is around $25.

Considering all of this, is there truly any benefit with going for managed hosting only for the dedicated ip and the fact that its essentially a vps and not separated using a special software like cloudlinux? What am I really pay the extra $125 or so bucks for?

Sorry if any of what I said is wrong or incorrect as its written from my knowledge, but would appreciate your response.

Thanks!

You are more likely to be negatively impacted on a shared hosting server, although most companies are going to remedy it quite quickly.

Other advantage with the VPS over shared will be the ability for you to install packages such as other versions of PHP, ruby etc. This probably doesn't effect you if you are running a basic site, but more complex site, apps may require specific builds which you will be able to easily install on non-shared.

Shared will probably be fine (assuming you get one with enough resources) for 9/10 cases.
