Telstra Support Says The Smart Modem Gen 2, 3 Is No Longer Accessible to Other ISPs

Just a quick update to all late fellas about to using Telstra smart modem 2 or 3 for other ISPs, this is their response

I just received confirmation from the Support Team that our Gen 2 and 3 modems are no longer accessible if the customer attempts to connect it to another provider and we appreciate your kind understanding to this matter. Cheers

Ver2: I am from the support team and there's no lock to the 4G back up that is locked. But when it comes to connectivity with other NBN providers that is not something we can guarantee. We only lock mobile phones not modem.

My gen 2 and gen 3 work perfectly with Superloop.

There was a firmware update a month or so ago and there was no reduction in operation.

    Lots about it here

    #fakenews

Fake news all day ref. What they are getting at is the 4G sim will stop working if you move providers in some cases.

we appreciate your kind understanding to this matter

    That's a big assumption…

I use one too with ABB

  • Please accept my apologies as i got 2 total different answers from Telstra reps
    Version 1 as above

Version 2: I am from the support team and there's no lock to the 4G back up that is locked. But when it comes to connectivity with other NBN providers that is not something we can guarantee. We only lock mobile phones not modem.

Iam still working on it as my Spintel is still not working

They can't guarantee it will work, and it won't work on all ISPs because it has no VLAN setting. Also, Spintel use PPPoE, so you need to enter those details.

When I canceled recently, they shut off the 4G, but I still have an old Gen 3 that still works with 4G, although the speed is currently capped at a pretty terrible 32KB/s.

      • Interestingly that my TSM2 lte mode activated with the cap around 20Mbps not bad though but as said, i need my nbn activated so still struggling

    • Did you enter the login details in the modem settings ?

      • Enter all the login details but no work, i also tried with my old tplink modem router and it’s also not working too. I am thinking if it’s infrastructure issue like my phone line as i am just newly moved in to this place

  • I'm using it with Exetel now, so far no issues

Finally got FTTP yesterday, Smart Modem GEN 2 is working fine with More NBN

    • good to know that as I am about to move to More :)
Telstra modem is still working fine FY all info

      • @henry1212 Do you know if Telstra Wifi Booster Gen 3 will work with Smart Modem GEN 2 if we are with More NBN
Smart Modem GEN 2 is working fine but Telstra website states that Telstra Wifi Booster GEN 3 is only for telstra customers, as this is just an addition to current SM Gen2, i dont see why it wouldn't work

        • Not sure bro. Need to check with Telsa

fmo, considering different model, i will say it wont work as they might have different wireless protocol

          • @ginger-gin: It is compatible with Smart modem Gen 2, thats stated on Telstra website, i just want to check if it will work for me as More NBN customer too
i can get one from Market place for $80

            • @AAN: ISPs(More or Spintel or any) have nothing to do with the hardware. They just provide the transmission, as long as the modem gen 2 is compatible with the wifi booster gen 3 from your statement, feel free to go ahead
