Portable Air Conditioning Solution for Ford Mondeo

The aircon in my Ford Mondeo doesn't work, unfortunately the cost to replace the compressor is not viable.

Therefore, I am looking for another solution, a small portable aircon unit for example such as this one.

Anybody any experience of this or can recommend perhaps another solution? I am in Perth so hot days are fast approaching.

Cheers

Guessing you decided not to bother last summer either?

My advice, spend some of that spare cash on a better running car

Correct, didn't seem worth spending $2,400 when the car is barely worth that.

Trust me, when it finally dies I will happily buy a better more reliable car but in the mean time as it has little or no resale value in its current state, I would prefer to drive it in to the ground!

      • Do you want to be on the side of the road on a 40 degree day? At least now you can sell it for something

That Polarbreezy is not an air conditioner, it's just an evaporative cooler.

Basically, it blows air across a moist pad. You can get a generic one for $15, but unlikely to be useful when the humidity is already high (which it is this summer)

    • You could probably use the car’s fan and a wet cloth too.

As above, that's an evaporative cooler. As you have a mondeo, it's more likely it has a failed compressor control valve, than a failed compressor.

    As my dad would say
You have four perfectly good air conditioners installed already
    one in every door

Unfortunately that air con is evaporative.
It'll make your car more humid and not exactly cool it down.
And tbh a 2000mah battery is just enough to power a fan let alone an air con.

480 air-conditioning worked for me in my P plate years.

    • My first car had WD100 air conditioning. Second car had rushin AC, it struggled to get to 100.

Buy a 3rd party air compressor or a used one from the wreckers, watch YouTube and install it yourself. Probably take you 2 weeks, but that's nothing since you've already waited more than a year

A home mechanic can replace an AC compressor, sure.

Vacuum purging the lines, filling with R134A to the right weight? Not so much.

Hey, it's all ball bearings nowadays

        • Now you prepare that Fetzer valve with some 3-in-1 oil and some gauze pads. And I'm gonna need about ten quarts of anti-freeze
