Advertising feed needs a little review

I just had a look at the "Cheapest source to get Diablo 3?" thread in "Find me a bargain" (http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/74226).

I don't have any problem with the actual post, but with the advertisement that accompanied it (address <MOD: removed>).

It's advertising the sale of Diablo 3 gold. An activity that Blizzard certainly doesn't encourage, and that doesn't encourage playing nicely together. In other words, you get caught you get banned.

While I don't play Diablo 3 (yet), I suggest that OzBargain might want to talk to the advertising supplier about what's appropriate. This ain't, and certainly plenty of other websites I've been involved in have taken care to ensure "clean" feeds of ads that are appropriate to their audience.

  • It's Ozbargain's revenue for Google Ads(generally those who are logged in can't see it)
    1) You can disable it through your Ozbargain account(i think)
    2) Use a browser add on for Adblock

    • Yep, I'm aware I can block the ads, but I do occasionally see something useful. It's just that the site can also tune what's considered appropriate and I suggest that this probably isn't.

OH NOES! There's one on this page too. Different ad, <MOD: Removed>

      • That domain has now been blocked (which might take a few hours to take effect).

Thanks I think it is a good idea to report bad ads in this thread which I am able to block the entire domain. You can also click on the "AdChoice" logo at the top-right corner and report those directly to Google if you think these are inappropriate.

        • Thanks:). Presumably we give you the link, you'll block it and delete from the thread?

        • Yeah that will do. We don't want to send more clicks to those advertisers, do we? :)

  • I have at times seen dodgy ads especially along with the "Beats" deals. Search for Dr Dre Beats on ozbargain and then you will see ads on your right, advertising Beats for $9.99. And just out of curiosity I checked out the website to see and anyone could easily tell they sell all fake stuff.

    • That too has been blocked. Also blocked 2 Diablo III gold advertisers (which are both based in China).

  • So i'm not quite sure if this is the appropriate place since its a few years old but didn't think it warranted a new topic.

Anyway, this ad showed up on the mobile site this morning, just couldn't help but think to some it may be a bit deceptive in thinking that ozbargain has some sort of link to facebook bar? Doesn't really have much of a purpose other than to perhaps be a scam. Not really an issue for me but thought i'd mention it anyway.

    • We can only block ads of we know where it goes to. Send me the full URL when you long press on the ads the next time you see one. Usually Google is quite quick in purging those deceptive ads but they creep in every now and then.

      • I thought that would be the case but i wasn't really sure, was gone by the next time i looked. I'll keep an eye out then.

  • Anyone seen the Pipo X7 ads from Geekbuying ? I see them quite often, states in the ad that they are $97.99, without a currency. However clicking on the URL takes me to geekbuying site where the minimum listed price is USD$117.99
