  • anyone done one of the kubernetes courses/exams ? cheers

    • Yes, I have cleared CKA exam almost 2 years ago.

      • How was it?

        • I have added reply below.

      • can you provide some feedback i'm seeing some mixed reviews about LCFS…

well, I got a job because this certificate.

exam is terminal heavy, you need understanding of Linux and its tool like vim and tmux.
vim to create configuration file and tmux to jump between terminal easily.

you can you official kubenetes website, so bookmark all the stuff for the exam.

exam also provide 2 cheat.sh session which you can use to prepare yourself for the exam.

          for preparation I used https://kodekloud.com/

          • @SJ50: thanks for replying, I've seen a few places mention kodekloud, it looks good.

I passed RHCE in july, that was about 4 hours, how long is the CKA exam?

Haven't got much experience with kube but was thinking about punching it out over christmas…How long did you study before the exam.

            thanks

            • @barg99: I was fairy good with tmux and vim. So, I rushed and finished it within a month.
              exam is 2 hour long.

          • @SJ50: Just want to add to this:

The exam is two hours these days, the remote UI can be laggy, and you can’t take your bookmarks into the exam so you’ll need to be very practiced in getting to the right kubernetes.io page to copy some yaml or get the flags for kubeadm).

Learn to generate the skeleton yaml with kubectl as much as you can; this will save you lots of time and can be a difference between pass and fail given the time constraints.

As felixt mentioned, the two practice sessions are provided by killer.sh (possibly just a rename?)

And yes, kodekloud is the way to go.

You can get an understanding of people’s experiences with the exam and the remote UI on reddit.

            Good luck!

I've done CKA & CKAD - both have a lot of overlap.
I found CKAD is more useful honestly and reflects what I do on my job, CKA is less useful unless you are running k8s on-prem.

I really appreciate the exam being a practical one - you really need to practice and know your way around k8s. The exam itself is not too hard - it's the 2 hours limit that is a bit tight.

You got 2 free killer.sh sessions as part of the exam, you can do unlimited re-tries per session - session lasts for 48 hours from memory - if you nailed the killer.sh, you'll definitely pass as killer.sh is actually harder than the exam itself.

  • Maybe I should grab one. Thanks

  • Thanks guys for information and the discount.
