"Sign in with Google" Pop-up on Login Window

Very annoying pop-up. Steps:

  • Press Login button on top
  • Login modal shows, with login / passwords fields, and Sign in with Google button at the bottom. All good.
  • In 1 second in top right corner "Sign in with Google pop-up appears, and steals focus. Not good at all.

Please remove the pop-up. If I want to sign in using Google account, I already have button in Ozb login modal.

Isn't that a browser level popup rather than the site generated one?

    • Sure is.

      Please remove the pop-up.

      Tell google then.

    • No. Browser is Safari, not Chrome. Exactly same issue with Firefox too.

      • But is Google your default for search?

        • how does this matter? I start from empty Private tab and go directly to ozb.com.au, no search. I wonder, it is not difficult to see for yourself, right?

    • This shows in Web Inspector in Safari:

      <div id="credential_picker_container" style="position: fixed; z-index: 9999; height: 301px;"><iframe src="https://accounts.google.com/gsi/iframe/select?client_id= ... origin=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ozbargain.com.au" title="Sign in with Google Dialogue" style="height: 301px; width: 391px; overflow: hidden;"></iframe>

    • Nah it's a modal div, not a popup.

I suspect it's a "feature" that Google has added for sites using "Sign in with Google".

  • Yeah I noticed it because I type everything. So right after I type my username I hit Tab, but the password field can't be accessed requiring me to click the box.

It's a minor annoyance. A good problem to have I would say.

  • The pop-up in the top right corner is part of Google's new One Tap Sign-in which is enabled by default. We will turn this off by the next rollout.

    • Thanks!

      • Seems like they fixed it.

        • Yep. Modal still blinks once for no reason, but yea, no pop-up.

          • @[Deactivated]: Yeah well I can type in my login stuff without any issue now. At least it doesn't steal away my text cursor.

  • Also not sure if this is an issue or not. But when browsing forums, if I go into a thread then click "back" in the browser the page remains blank indefinitely, until I scroll then everything loads. Not sure if it's something that needs to be fixed or is working as intended.

Doesn't happen on any other area of the website. Just forums.
