What to Buy My 5 Year Old Niece?

Legit, I am hopeless when it comes to buying her gifts.

My nephew I find really easy, but my niece I struggle.

The only information I get from my sister in law is:

Craft stuff ( paper, paint etc )
Pretty dress
Jewellery
Lol dolls
Dress ups

Basically have no idea, I really struggle with girls stuff.

Help! I need something local available in stores, unless Amazon express 🤣😭

Thank you for any ideas!

  • Kids smart watches are quite cool https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/vtech-kidizoom-dx2-smartw… but obviously need to check with SIL/brother/sister if comfortable with electronics. Also a kids camera is a nice idea.

Books and board games are always good on the non-electronic side.

    Puzzles are great as well.

Otherwise just follow SILs lead and get what she requests.

I read your title as "Want to buy my 5 year old niece?"

Either I need to be arrested or I need glasses…..

Calling the cops and Specsaver right away.

How about visiting your local Smiggle store, children seem to be their target demographic.

  • Anything Paw Patrol or that pig series.

It’s easier just not to think About such a strong gender definition with your gifts

Here’s are some suggestions I would happily get any 5 year old:
    - Lego set (something like the city range etc)
    - “how to build” kits (like solar robots etc)
    - craft kits (like make a plaster model and paint it)
    - kids books - double win if they’re based on a tv show they like
    - maybe check with the parents first, but a minecraft license
    - sports sets or trampolines
    - kids camera

Something musical and loud. Her parents will love it.

    • Especially if don't take batteries. That way the parents can save their money.

Go to your local $2 shop and load up on craft kits, poster paints, sequins, pom poms, buttons, stickers, paddle pop sticks, pipe cleaners, textas, glitter, glue, novelty hole punches, pretty scrapbooking paper sheets, stencils, stamps, etc. Get a pretty box, also from the $2 shop, that will fit all these items. For a bonus, get a larger than needed box and fill the spare space with crinkly long confetti stuff so she has to dig through to find the items and it feels more special. Done.

Source: I have 5, 4 and 2 year old nieces and they would all go bananas for a big box full of this stuff.

      What about their parents ?

  • An investment property. She can then use her arts and crafts skills to redecorate the place, flip it, reinvest and climb that property ladder! (you didn't specify a budget)

Seriously though, buy her a voucher to a "Plaster Fun House" or Plaster of Paris moulding and painting place/cafe.

She gets to use her arts and crafts and gets to take something home to decorate her room at the end of the day. You can go with her as part of the present and spend some time with her. And the parents get a break too as it's just you two that need to go!

    It's a win-win-win.

    Love. It’s free

Don't just buy a present - take her out for a special shopping and lunch trip to her shopping centre of choice.
Give her a budget and then let her loose.
Then a bit of downtime at her food retailer of choice.
Quality time with you and being treated as responsible enough to make her own decisions.

My nephews and nieces have always loved this.

    • I agree, but she's a little nightmare LOL

      • I agree, but she's a little nightmare LOL

I find they are the ones that can be really responsive when they are treated as a responsible little person (with the clear expectations of their behaviour explained to them in terms they can understand and relate to).

They are in the process of trying out various aspects of their personality and I find it amazing to observe the attempts.

        • I'm just an uncle, I don't have kids of my own.

I also can't say how my brother and sister in-law raise their children.

I would probably be different 😂

  • Get an Ultimate Kids gift card from Coles when they're 15% off

    • They don't really understand gift cards!

    iphone 14 Pro

  • Ask her. just literally ask her!

  • I was going to recommend Fashion Plates. The link is not allowed here but search for '4M C4720 My Design Portfolio Fashion Studio' on Amazon. It's $25.95 at the 4M store.

If you know what characters she is in to, Best and Less, Target and Big W are good places to shop.

Kidstuff (the toystore) has a large jewellery selection. It's about $15 for a necklace/bracelet combo.

  • Barbie doll

  • Book.

Go to good bookshop and ask what’s best for her.

Give her a voucher for either
    a) Take her out for lunch (Macca's Happy Meal) and then to a Toy Store where she can spend "x" on whatever she wants
    b) Lunch and a movie of her choice with you
    c) Lunch and Activity (10 pin bowling, mini golf etc)

Or just try speaking to her, speak to any kid for 5 minutes they will tell you what the like (Pokemon, Bluey, Lego etc)

Take her on an outing to the zoo and then treat her with a souvenir at the end of the day. She will remember that forever vs any presents.
