Help - I Cant Activate New Boost SIM Card with Existing Boost Number

Hi all,

I currently have a 28 day boost sim that expired 8/12/22

I am trying to replace it with a 365 day boost sim today 5/12/22

https://prepaid.activate.boost.com.au/

Using that link, I tried to activate it and keep my old number, but I am getting this message below:
This is a Boost number (Input error. You can’t transfer a Boost mobile number.)

How exactly do I replace my Boost sim with another Boost sim and keep the same number.

Thanks

Have to port to another provider and then back.

    • damn, is that the only way?

Is it possible with 2 dollar sims from woolworths?

The $2 starter SIM's from most providers won't let you activate them without throwing some more money in their direction. I know that the Telstra $2 SIM's are an exception (you can opt to recharge later), but I've yet to try Boost > Telstra $2 > Boost. Optus Flex ($2 for the SIM, plus another $1) is another cheap-ish option, if you're prepared to take the risk that they won't keep charging you once you've ported back out. Next up would be some of the $10 7-day starter packs that are often on special for $4. After that, Aldi for $5.

If you can get your hands on a Kogan $2 SIM, or time is on your side and you can wait for one to be delivered, https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/737322

EDIT: You could also try calling Boost, and maybe you'll get a CSR who will do some fiddling on their system and get you up and running with the new Boost SIM. My son has had success with this method once before, as have others, but there are also many reports of people being refused. No harm in asking, I guess.

I managed to switch to annual one via chat and it was instantaneous.
Act like a fool and tell them you didnt know you cant recharge via Sim blah blah and they will do it.

  • Goodluck. I had no idea.

What did they say when you contacted them?

    • That if you are an existing customer, you are not a new customer for purpose of activating a new sim, and you should pay the higher renewal cost.

Or something like that they will say

      They said try Ozb first.

  • I did this a while ago. Had a 28 day sim and then moved to 365. I just called them up, they were able to port my number over to the new SIM. It was pretty quick.

  • when i did this about 18 months ago i just went on their chat and said i was having an issue with recharging becuase it looks like a got a new sim. The person on the other end of the chat was able to sort it all out for me without having to bother about porting out and back in. might be worth a try before going through the hassle of porting out and back
