Need Security Camera Suggestions

Hey everyone,

I’m after at least two security cameras. I really don’t know what to look for, they’ll be outside the house. Looking for as cheap as possible that’s still decent. Perhaps around $200? Any help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Wait for the Eufy sale heh heh

    • Hmmm when’s the saleeeeessss

  • wifi or wired?

if not installing yourself, the big cost will be installation (for wired, which is better).

    • I think wireless cause wired would be a bit of a hassle to install.

      • Will still require a power source - typically wired.

  • google nest battery outdoor cams cost $250 each, but can handle power / wifi outage and videos stored in cloud not on site, easy to move around

  • Check out the following so you can see the different options available as there are allot:
    https://www.bunnings.com.au/products/smart-home/smart-home-s…

    • Hmmm all of those seem to be wired

  • I can see some on Amazon for around $80 but not sure if they’re any good. Reviews seem to be okay

  • IF it backs up to the cloud, make sure you look into the monthly/annual costs

  • IMO you're going to want a wired setup and a dedicated NVR (Network Video Recorder).

I've had good success with Dahua: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/334195333908
And NVR: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/174925604268 (choose just the NVR)

You'll need a HDD to whack in it.

    Over your budget.. /shrugs

  • Reconsider battery rechargable types because having to manually recharge them can be a hassle.

    • Apparently these Eufy ones go on for 180 days without needing a charge so that doesn’t seem too bad

      • It is 180 days assuming very limited number of events to record. 24/7 recording is not even possible

I ended up getting the Eufy ones, they’re already installed. Very happy with them!

          • @RegentHoney: I have a power-wired Eufy floodlight as well. it is good for remote monitoring, but for me it is not replacing the 24/7 set and forget recording system which you only want to go to when there is major incident.
they are two different products IMHO

  • Decide if you want 24/7 recording. if yes you have to go wired and you have to DIY with that budget. Bunnings sells Swann ones with 4 cameras with that price
