Security Camera CCTV Wireless

hi all

I am looking to instal CCTV cameras in my house, need 4 of them. Dont know much about cameras and installation so need some advise here.

Was thinking to get wireless option, is it just as good as the wired option? Obviously dont want to spend thousands in installing a wired one.

Was looking on Reolink and they have the wire-free and wireless options - whats better option?
Also how does the recording for the wireless system?

Budget about $800 for 4 cameras and the recorder

Thank you

I am still struggling to see any real reason why wireless would be preferred.

Sure you can make it easily accessible for recharging…but then the intruders etc can also easily access it?
Then the whole issue of reliable battery life both in terms of long term use, cost and avail of replacement batteries, positioning in high traffic areas etc

So you do not have to run any cables.
So you do not have to drill holes in any walls.

So they stop working after the battery goes flat.
So you need to re-charge the battery every few days or a week.
So you can get the ladder out and climb it to replace the battery or charge the battery, unless you are on holidays or it's 40 degrees or it's raining or…
So you need to replace the battery if you can after every X charges.

As you can see I agree that wireless is next to useless as you need to run power, so why not run CAT 5E and run POE.

      • run power,

I was thinking in the literal sense of wireless (as in it runs off solar)

    • only use case I can see for wireless is a renter that is not allowed to install things in a building, but seems like OP not renting so I agree with you

Wireless cameras cannot do continuous recording if that’s something you need. There are some other features that are not available on wireless cameras sometimes.
Go for Reolink PoE cameras if you can run ethernet cables or get someone to do it.

    No

  • dumb question.

for something like this https://reolink.com/au/product/rlk8-410b4/?attribute_pa_vers… what stops the theif stealing the NVR

I agree a thief would steal a wireless camera but google home camera at least would put the video up to the cloud first

I currently have 3 google nest cams wireless and want to add something that does 24/7 recording

  • I've had good success with Dahua: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/334195333908
And NVR: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/174925604268 (choose just the NVR)

You'll need a HDD to whack in it.

  • The eufycam ( 4 pack ) is pretty good that is priced just within your budget. Unless you buy the optional solar panels though you will have to charge them manually. One charge can last up to 1 year depending on use.
