Is Now a Good Time to Sell My Kluger or Should I Wait for The Holidays to Be over?

Looking to sell my 2014 Kluger. Does it make sense to do some presale prep and post an ad on Carsales now or should I wait till around mid January, when holidays are over and people are back to business?

I don’t mind to wait, just trying to pick the right time when wallets are still full and people are not already in the holiday mode. Also concerned that if I post it now and wait till Jan, my ad could be penalized for being online for too long.

Thoughts?

Doesn't matter much, you'll have plenty of people looking to fit 2 grandparents on a budget. The issue is how much are you willing to let it go for.

  • More used cars are going on sale now. So the quicker the better.

    • Good point, thanks!

It's an 8 year old Kluger ..I don't think the $ difference would be significant either way

This happened to me, got a $400 fine as it coincided with double demerits.

    • Sell it today as every day they make new laws penalizing people who try to outsmart the government.

Every day is a good day to sell a kluger

    • It's a nice car, bit thirsty, but plenty of space if you have big family and like doing occasional camping trips.

  • 1st to push wait until Jan button :-)

    • What's your argument for waiting till Jan?

  • Unlike during Covid, there's no benefit in waiting to sell.

  • probably only a small benefit, but folks are taking leave around now and might have more availability to check it out

  • $169 for the basic Carsales ad, yikes!

  • I voted sell it now because once it turns 2023 that means your car is now valued 1 year older. Just from depreciation I think better to go for the quick sale.

In normal years there are TV ads about clear out sales for last years models which reminds buyers about depreciation.

Plus you can advertise the 1 month extra rego as a positive.

    • Good point, thanks!

  • It’s a Toyota. It’ll sell. Just sell it when it works best for you. For every buyer rushing to get a car for Christmas break there will be plenty that will wait for January when it’s ‘less busy’.

If it’s more convenient not to have it now, then sell it but put up with tyre kickers and enquires during the pre Christmas rush.

If you don’t have to sell soon, maybe it’s better to wait for January when it’s a bit more relaxed. During holiday time when you’ve got time to deal with buyers plus just after Christmas when people have discovered that their current 5 seater is no good for extra passengers or that they can’t squeeze in enough holiday gear and want a bigger car.

    • I think I’m going to wait. Pre sale prep + Carsales ad is going to cost me around $500, my pockets are already empty with all the Christmas stuff :(
