Reliable Refrigerator Brands? (lasting 10+ years)

Our 8 year old LG refrigerator's fan motor died, and we were told that the fan motor model is no longer available. I was told that parts can be made obsolete even in 6 or 7 years.

What is the most reliable brand for refrigerators? Not looking for bells and whistles, just the basics.

Which refrigerator brand can be trusted to keep their parts available for more than 10 years?

Did a Google search and read that GE are most reliable, but these articles may be for the US. I'm not able to find GE brands sold here.

  • My Samsung fridge has lasted 17 years so far (double door with ice dispenser)

    • Interesting, my samsung fridge was fine for 4-5 years but now constantly having issues with cooling.

    • About 9 years with my Samsung fridge

    • I am also 17years with Samsung SRS596NP.

  • None.

Labour and parts out of warranty is probably way too expensive these days anyways.

  • Edit: (whoops didn't read title properly)
Our fisher/paykel fridge from 2011 lasted a little over 10 years (but only just, as we replaced them earlier this year after it kept tripping the circuit breaker, with a more modern mitsubishi fridge)

  • My F&P is 16-odd years old with no significant issues (I think I've had the seal replaced once).

    • Same - our F&P is 17 years old and still going strong. We haven't had any issues at all with it

  • Haier fridges are made by GE, dunno if that means they're reliable or not though.

    • +2

GE is owned and made by Haier. Other way around

  • Inlaws have a maytag fridge and washing machine that are 40 years old and still going strong

    • +3

GE and Maytag used to be great appliances made in USA and run forever, those companies have been sold off and new owners have them made cheaply overseas.

  • motor died, and we were told that the fan motor model is no longer available.

Have you checked Ebay or Aliexpress ? I found washing machine door handle from Ebay (new, old stock)
may be you can find the similar fridge from FB market place where owner is trying to get rid with, get the part from that

    • it crossed my mind, but getting these things and then disposing them will be a pain.

  • I've recently too had fridge issues and most others that have fridges that are 10-15 years old are for fridges that are no longer available anymore :(

My Westinghouse had a good 6 years before developing issue… I loathe the notion of buying a new fridge with such high frequency. Yes like others, my previous lasted 15 years but was not practical for the new house.

Can't buy the old model fridge in new. Can't buy new fridge with expectation that'll it'll get to 10 years. Fridges aren't cheap either. :\

  • My Samsung has been going strong for 15 years

  • Electrolux/Kelvinator here. Purchased, dunno, 15? Years ago, hasnt skipped a beat. Old school freezer on top type.

  • +3

    Mitsubishi?

  • Check energy usage old fridges last long but high energy costs

  • Bosch washing machine (7-8 years old)

Hisense fridge (3 years old, so far so good), had a Sumsung one prior, nothing but trouble.

  • +1

Have a 10 year old Panasonic that's still going strong.
Was wary at the time of going with them given the small market presence but haven't had any issues.

  • Westinghouse - 15 years and still going strong.

  • Samsung fridge here. Over 10 years and still runs great. Made in Thailand.

  • We're about to replace our 21 year old Westinghouse. The pigeon pair freezer carked it a few months ago requiring an on the day purchase, we're replacing the fridge before that happens (hopefully, it's on order)
    .

  • Have an old Kalvinator in my outdoor kitchen that’s about 25 years old.

My Westinghouse in my indoor kitchen just died after 7-8 years. Have to see if it’s repairable or not but replaced by a Samsung.

  • Which refrigerator brand can be trusted to keep their parts available for more than 10 years?

Impossible to predict! I'd say none!
Past performance is no guarantee of future results.
Every company's overarching goal is to continually increase profits, often by cutting costs.
Quality is secondary to overall sales.

  • Samsung

  • When doing research 4 years ago, on the lower price end it said Fisher & Paykel and Westinghouse/Electrolux were best. If your budget is higher, the Mitsubishi multi drawer fridges are made in Japan and really good as well.

I personally wouldn't buy Electrolux. Had one and it had two issues within 3 months. The defrost function didn't work and the second time the repair person found that a connector/cable wasn't connected properly. He pushed it together and it worked fine, but by then I had enough of it and sold it. Bought a Mitsubishi multi drawer and had no issues at all for 4 years. Only problem is the shelves are plastic (We have the EX range) but they discontinued it and I'm pretty sure the WX range uses glass shelves now
